Bitmoji is the online generation’s favorite way to express themselves. Since the app’s launch, users have been creating digital representations of themselves, from the way they look to the way they dress.
The animated art style is nothing short of timeless. You can customize a Bitmoji’s skin color, hair, tone, accessories, body type expression, and more. The depth level is constantly changing with new updates.
However, some users want to customize more of their Bitmoji, such as the hat color. So you can change your hair color, so why can’t you change your hat color?
Bitmoji Hat Colors
Ok, you cannot change the preloaded caret colors in Bitmoji. The selection itself is incredibly wide, meaning you’re likely to find a hat color that meets your needs and wants. From bandanas to baseball caps to cowboy hats, there’s a selection of colors to choose from.

Customizing Bitmoji
If you’re not familiar with Bitmoji or how to customize your avatar, let’s go over a few things first. We’ll go over changing your hats, caps and more to make your version of the cartoon character as unique as you are.
When choosing your Bitmoji, you will have three main options to choose from.
- Bitmoji Deluxe – This avatar style offers the most extensive selection of customization options available in the app. Don’t worry, the term ‘luxury’ doesn’t mean you have to pay for anything like the other two options that are free to use and available from the app.
- Classic Bitmoji – If you like nostalgia or enjoy the look of your old avatars, you can switch to the classic version. Unfortunately, most of your options are limited under this feature.
- bit strips – The Bitstrips option has more options than the classic version, but less than luxury.

As you can see in the image above, each version has its own avatar with a unique look. To switch between versions, follow these steps:
- Open the Bitmoji app
- Tap the settings cog in the top right corner
- Select ‘Change Avatar Styles’
- Tap ‘Use This Style’ below your preferred option
Once you’ve done that, you can start customizing. If you want to change the hat colors, you have more options with the Deluxe feature, so we will use it.
Making the Change
Now that we have the most options for changing your hat color, we’ll move on to choosing the perfect cap for your avatar. Follow these instructions:
- Open the Bitmoji app and tap ‘Avatar’ at the bottom of the screen
- Use the bottom bar to navigate to a hat image
- Touch the color and style that best suits your personality
- Tap ‘Save’ in the top right corner
Your new Bitmoji design will appear on Snapchat’s Snap Maps and any other places you want to show it off.
How To Change My Bitmoji Hair Color
If you want to update your hair color to match your hat, you can! Use the slider to access your hair color options using the same process we used above. You can choose almost any color you want. Deluxe offers an additional 100 options called ‘Hair Treatments’. This includes Balayage and Ombre hair colors.

All you have to do is scroll down to the hair care options, select your style and click save. If you want other colors, go to the hair color options and do the same.
Understanding Bitmoji
When Bitmoji was first released, it wasn’t as customizable as it is now. The app was acquired by Snapchat, which bought Bitstrips, the company that created Bitmoji, for $64 million in 2016.
Now Bitmoji is directly tied to Snapchat and iMessage for users to send to their friends. With these, users can post how they’re feeling, interact with their Bitmoji, and more. It’s a fascinating innovation in the digital social interaction space, and that’s only going to change.

Bitmoji is also really at the forefront of digital customization. Bitmoji users have hundreds of customization options, so there’s one for every person, preference, season or even day if you really like it.
There are also a few different art styles, such as Bitmoji Deluxe or Bitmoji classic. You can choose any of the three, which makes your changes easier to apply.
Take Your Bitmoji Anywhere You Go
Ok, Bitmoji is really neat on Snapchat’s Snap Maps. While drinking coffee, sleeping at your computer desk, you can show yourself on the map in all kinds of poses and activities.

Did you know that you can use your avatar in other applications as well? Create an avatar and send it to your friends via text messages using both iMessage and SMS texts on Android. Whether you’re using Android or iPhone, go to settings.

Pulling from the Real
It’s even crazier for Bitmoji to take a selfie of you and turn it into a Bitmoji of yourself. From there, you can further refine and customize the avatar to make it look like a spitting image of yourself.
However, the capabilities here are not perfect. It doesn’t just create a face for you. Instead, the app provides the perfect framework for you to work with and you can go from there.
However, customization options will come even faster in the future. The Bitmoji Deluxe version of these avatars was created with the future in mind. With this, developers have a simple framework to implement changes as they wish. With this, Bitmojis can be more unique than ever before.
