Of course, dating apps like Tinder have taken away some of the anxiety of finding potential partners. Whether you’re looking for a casual connection or the start of something new, being able to connect with others almost anonymously takes away a bit of the awkwardness of the whole process.
Still, getting involved in a new relationship is always frustrating, especially for the person who first texted you on a Tinder exchange. Has the person read my message? Are they ignoring me? Is there any way I can tell if they have read the message or not?
Tinder has eased many of the challenges of dating, but it has also created some. Like many social apps, it creates a completely different sense of expectation that can make using the app harder than it needs to be, and while it’s no harder than dating in real life, it still presents similar challenges, one of which is the fear of rejection. .
For some, flirting doesn’t come naturally. Shy, naturally reticent, or introverted people can have as many challenges on Tinder as they do in real life. The positive thing for these people is that you don’t have to look the person in the eye to make the first move. While rejection is possible, the chances of interacting awkwardly with a failed Tinder match in the future are pretty slim.

Did They Read Your Tinder Message?
You may notice in your Tinder conversations that there are no notifications indicating whether your message has been sent, received or read. This is deliberate. Tinder was getting read receipts back when the app was first launched, but it was removed (especially from women) after user feedback. This is mixed news for users.
Removing read receipts means that as the sender, you will never know if the person read the message, laughed and continued, or even saw the message. It also takes the worry out of knowing that a message has been read and nothing has happened. Definitely annoying, but in a slightly different and less confrontational way.
Here’s a little bit of advice that will (hopefully) help you feel a little better: Not acting after sending the first message is normal for all online dating, not just Tinder. For whatever reason, sometimes people do not respond to messages they receive. That doesn’t mean you’re a terrible person – it’s just something we all have to get used to and accept. Be approachable and authentic and do your best not to be an online creep and you will find that things are not going your way. Either way, silent rejection is part of the fun of online dating.
Paid Read Receipts

Starting in June 2019, Tinder began offering a paid “read receipt” functionality. Read receipts can be purchased in batches of 5, 10, and 20, and each time you activate the feature in a conversation, it counts as one use.
Anyone can turn Read Receipts on or off from their settings menu. If you leave the setting to default (on), someone who has purchased read receipts can apply this information to your conversation and start receiving notifications that you’ve seen their message.
If you turn the setting off, people won’t be able to use read receipts in your conversations. Therefore, even if one of the parties has paid for read receipts, they will not appear unless the intended recipient’s read receipt notifications are set to “on”. The good news is that Tinder will not allow this usage to continue, so the “returned” read receipts can be used for another conversation.
Receipt packs work per match; that is, when you apply a read receipt to a match, you will receive a receipt for all your messages sent to that match as long as your conversation continues.
- Go to the chat you are interested in.

- Click on Get Reading Recipes.

Follow the on-screen instructions to purchase your read receipts. You will need to turn this feature on for each profile you communicate with.
Write a Message to Get a Reply
Assuming you don’t spend money making sure your matches get your messages, how can you increase their chances of replying?

There are a few things you can do to increase your chances of getting a reply to your messages on Tinder. While there is no such thing as ‘guaranteed success’, if you follow some of these tips, you have a much better chance of getting a response and maybe even meeting up for a date.
Here are a few things you can try to get answers on Tinder:
plan first
It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of finding a partner on Tinder, but don’t get carried away. Try to restrain yourself a little and take the time to read their bios, look at all of their pictures and form a mental picture of who they are. Use this image to compose your answer.
Later:
Use their profiles for inspiration
Take what you learned about them and mention something in your message. If they’re playing the guitar and you’re playing it, use it. If they like the same sports teams as you, use it somehow. If you share your interests, jobs, fantasies, tastes or anything like that, mention it in your message.
People are much more likely to respond to a message from someone they already have common ground with. Flirting is hard and if some of the hard work is done for you, like having something to talk about or even breaking the ice, it’s a huge boost for both of you psychologically.
Again, don’t try to make parts fit. If the other person likes to run, say, “I ran once… I’m done with pizza!” Don’t try to be a joker. Save this for a time when you can give it a little more context. Instead, focus on something you can relate to: “I see you like running. I’m not much of a runner, but I love walking! Have you ever been to the (local trail)?” The other person will be much more likely to reply to a message in the context of a conversation they really want to have.
ask questions
If you don’t have clear common ground, ask a question or deal with them. Much better if you can ask a funny question, but avoid getting too “there” in the first place. Anyone who’s been dating for more than five minutes has already heard a lot of corny things, so avoid really scaring someone by using excessive creativity. Use what you see and create and post a pretty clever or funny question. What have you got to lose?
No matter why anyone uses Tinder, they like to have some respect for who they are as a person. Show interest wisely and your chances of getting a response will be much higher.
Use a GIF or Meme
GIFs and memes can be misleading because sometimes things you find funny can be borderline offensive to someone else, especially if you don’t know anything about them. That said, there are plenty of silly GIFs out there that might cause nothing scarier than a little giggle, so if you have funny GIFs, don’t be afraid to use them. I see many of them in use on Tinder, so don’t be afraid to use them in a message.
If you can’t find common ground or something funny to say and questions just aren’t for you, a fun GIF or meme that you think is appropriate for the occasion might work!
