Realme 2 Camera Review: Sub-Performance 1

Realme 2 Camera Review: Sub-Performance

Realme, now separated from Oppo, has recently launched the Realme 2 in India. is priced Rs. 8990, the device makes another entry into the budget market, aiming to challenge Xiaomi for the throne. However, one thing that is missing from all these budget devices is a good camera setup. Oppo definitely thinks the Realme 2 covers that front. But is it really so? Let’s find out as we review the cameras on the Realme 2:

Realme 2 Camera Review

Features

Realme 2 comes with 2 MP, f/2.4, 13 MP, f/2.2 sensor combined with depth sensor. On the front, the Realme 2 has an 8 MP, f/2.2 sensor hidden inside the top notch.

Rear Cameras

  • Performance in Good Lighting Conditions

Camera works well in good lighting during the dayhowever, if the lighting is not good enough, the camera starts to work. There is a loss of detail, backgrounds are sometimes exaggerated and for some reason random things keep happening on this phone.

  • Performance in Low Lighting Conditions

When it comes to low-light performance, the Realme 2 is mostly a disappointment.. It manages to improve the illumination of the image, but this comes at a quality cost. Images come out super grainy and lack sharpness.

  • Portrait Mode Performance

Thanks to the new dual camera setup on the back, the camera also offers portrait mode, but that’s nothing to get excited about. While edge detection is pretty good, blurring isn’t quite naturalsomething common to all budget devices.

  • Video Recording Performance

The video recording performance on the Realme 2 is also pretty bad for a couple of reasons. one, camera has focus problemand the video continues to focus in and out of the subject. Second, the absence of any stabilization tools the camera will also show even the slightest jolts. As for the resolution, the video comes out at 1080p@30fps, which is pretty standard for a device at this price. So the quality is not that good.

Front Camera Performance

Although the camera managed to show the photos well in general, I noticed this. fixes many details from photos. However, it also makes images social media ready, so that’s it.

  • How Is It Anti-Competitive?

Well, the camera may be good, but how well does it fare against its rivals? I ran it against Realme 1 and Redmi 5 and the results were as I expected. While the Redmi 5 easily outperforms both cameras in rear mode, it fails in front camera mode. Still, here’s a camera comparison between the three devices so you can see for yourself:

Realme 2 Camera: Good at its Best

Everything has been thought of Realme 2 offers good cameras for its price, this is definitely something to be happy about. On the other hand, video recording is a huge disappointment and I can’t say that I had high expectations from the device, but the Realme 2 also does not meet the basic video expectations.
