The Los Angeles Lakers were undoubtedly the most reviewed team of the 2021-22 season, as Richard Jefferson once again went to Anthony Davis today. Davis, Russell Westbrook and King James are also players who have come together with veteran players and contributed to the league for different concessions over the years. The Lakers were considered one of the title contenders, but the reality was the opposite, as the 17-time world champion didn’t even make it into the postseason. The Lakers looked terrible on paper, not on the field, as they came to grips with their disastrous season and sought inspiration to mobilize their star players to perform at their highest level.
The 2021-22 NBA season did not go as planned for the basketball giants in Los Angeles. Boasting a star-studded roster with one of the All-Time Greats LeBron James himself and two future Hall of Famers at Anthony Davis, and newly traded Russell Westbrook, the Lakers failed at the crucial moment. They started the season badly and didn’t take the games seriously until after the All-Star break. There seemed to be a lack of urgency among the players in general, coupled with all the injuries, they failed to develop any rhythm throughout the season.

Lebron James has been heavily criticized for the Lakers’ dismal performances in the 2021-22 season, with Anthony Davis arguably the second most criticized player. The Lakers Nation lashed out at him for being responsible for the Lakers mess, and ESPN Sports Analyst Richard Jefferson joined the party. The Lakers had won the NBA Championship under head coach Frank Vogel just 2 years ago in 2020, and have now completely missed the playoffs in 2021-22.
On ESPN’s ‘NBA Today’, Richard Jefferson stated that he believes Anthony Davis will be the player under the most pressure for next season due to his lack of contribution to the team. He believes AD is not the same beast we saw when he first came to Los Angeles, and is now surpassed by other Star Players like Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic.
“When Anthony Davis released the bubble, he said, ‘He’s one of the top five players and we need to see how long it will take for him to become the best player in the league. Since then, Giannis has passed him, Joel Embiid has passed him, Jokic has passed him. The Lakers are getting worse every year.
“BI know he’s not that bad, overly aggressive player but we need to see an aggressive version of Anthony Davis this year because he’s the Lakers. To me, there isn’t one player that everyone looks up to because the last two years have been sad for the Lakers and Anthony Davis.Jefferson explained how Anthony Davis will aim to put on some performances next year that remind people of why he was an 8-time All Star.
When Davis fell out with an MCL Sprain, the Lakers only had aging Dwight Howard in size, the next biggest player being 6’8″ Lebron James and a similarly sized player. Carmelo Anthony. The team seemed addicted to the play of Anthony Davis, a player with a history of injury. Instead of deploying staff to take some of the pressure off the AD, they basically got rid of all their big and key men like Kuzma. KCPand Caruso, who, as the season went downhill for the Lakers, put AD in a more injury-prone position.
After winning the 2020 title, Davis suffered several injuries that kept him off the field for a long time. Davis has played in just 76 games out of a potential 154 in the past two seasons. A dysfunctional team, poor decision making, lack of rhythm, and well-played players, all of these factors have resulted in the Lakers hitting 33 games. -49 in 2021-22 and dropped from the playoffs. As for Anthony Davis, they’d rather forget this season and start over, hopefully it’s only a matter of time before he shuts up his critics!
