The increase in wireless headphones, speakers, and mouse makes connecting them to a Mac a little more difficult. Although easier said than done, managing Bluetooth devices with a Mac can be simple.
You can connect your Bluetooth headphones, external keyboards, and more while using your Mac.
You can have up to seven Bluetooth devices connected to your Mac at any given time. You will learn how to add, disconnect and forget these devices. The steps we’ve listed here work regardless of the Mac model – iMac, Mac Mini, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.
How to Add a Bluetooth Device to Your Mac
If you want to add a device, you must first turn on the Bluetooth features of your Mac. To do this, click the icon at the top of your screen and turn this option on.

Alternatively, open System Preferences and select Bluetooth. When it opens, select Turn on Bluetooth.

Once your Mac can recognize devices in range, follow the steps below.
Stage 1: Go to your Bluetooth preferences. You can find them by going to the Bluetooth logo in your toolbar or via System Preferences.
Step 2: Turn on your Bluetooth device and move it within range of your Mac.
Stage 3: Your Bluetooth device should appear in the large white box. For this example, we’re connecting wireless headphones. Click the Connect button next to it.

After completing the last step, your Mac should connect to the Bluetooth device almost instantly.
How to Disconnect Bluetooth Device
To disconnect a Bluetooth device from your Mac, simply turn it off. Alternatively, you can turn off Bluetooth from the toolbar; The steps are the same as listed above, you just turn the switch off instead of on.
You can also manually disconnect a Bluetooth device from your Mac. This is simple to do; all you have to do is follow the steps listed below this paragraph.
Stage 1: Open Bluetooth preferences from the System Preferences app.
Step 2: Highlight the device you want to disconnect. Right-click the device you want to disconnect.
Stage 3: Select Disconnect from the list of options that appear.

You can also disconnect your Bluetooth device from your Mac’s toolbar.
Stage 1: Click on the Bluetooth icon where you will see your devices.
Step 2: Click the Bluetooth logo next to the device you want to disconnect. It will turn from blue to gray, meaning it is no longer mapped.

How To Forget Bluetooth Device
When you connect your Mac and Bluetooth device, they pair automatically every time you turn on Bluetooth and when they are nearby. This can be confusing when you have a call and can’t hear the other person. If you don’t want this to happen, or if you’ve upgraded and won’t be using that item again, you can manually forget the device.
Just like forgetting a Wi-Fi network on your iPhone or Mac, it’s easy to do the same with a Bluetooth device. All you have to do is follow the steps listed below.
Stage 1: Go to your Mac’s Bluetooth preferences.
Step 2: You will see a small x in a gray circle next to your device. Click this.

Stage 3: A pop-up window with a warning will appear on your screen. Select Uninstall from the two options presented to you.

After you disconnect a Bluetooth device from your Mac, you must manually reconnect it if you want to use it in the future.
The steps listed above are the easiest way to remove a Bluetooth device from your Mac, but they are not the only options. You can also follow these steps to achieve the same result:
Stage 1: Go to your Bluetooth preferences.
Step 2: While holding down the ctrl button, click the thing you want to remove, just as you would when disconnecting a device.
Stage 3: Click Remove. Select the namesake button when the warning message appears.
