The Mail app on iPhone and iPad doesn’t come with the premium functionality found in alternative third-party email clients like Outlook for iOS. But it still offers a solid email experience and is less confusing to get and use. However, what if you can’t find the Mail app in the first place?
It’s not surprising if the Mail app disappears on your iPhone or iPad. There are several reasons why this happens. Maybe you uninstalled the app a while ago. Screen Time is preventing it from appearing. Or it’s plainly hidden among other icons.
Follow the troubleshooting steps below and you will bring the Mail app back in no time.
1. Download the Mail App from the App Store
Starting with iOS 10, you can easily uninstall native apps on iPhone and iPad. So if you’ve switched to a different email client before, you probably uninstalled the Mail app. Or you may have done it by mistake. Time to check if this is the case.
Start by visiting the App Store. Do a search for the Mail app. Then you should see the Mail app listed at the top of the search results. If you see a cloud-shaped icon, tap it to redownload the Mail app. Once the download is finished, you can access it.
Have you noticed an Open option next to Mail instead? Simply tap to launch the application. But that means the app is hidden from view all along. See troubleshooting tips 3 and 4 for alternative ways to find the Mail app. If you get a ‘Restrictions Enabled’ message when you tap Open, go to the next troubleshooting tip.
2. Check for Screen Time Restrictions
Screen Time restrictions can also cause the Mail app to disappear. To prevent someone from accessing your emails, you may have blocked the Mail app and forgot everything. Follow the steps below to check.
Stage 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone and iPad. Tap Screen Time, then tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.
Step 2: Tap Allowed Apps. If prompted to continue, enter your Screen Time passcode.

Stage 3: Turn on the switch next to Mail.
When you return to the home screen, you will see the Mail app again.
Note: If someone else has applied Screen Time restrictions, you’ll need their permission to enable access to the Mail app.
3. Search for the Mail App
The Mail app may be plainly hidden as well as other app icons. This is true if you have a large number of applications installed. Or if you have a colorful wallpaper that makes certain icons hard to spot. Worse still, you could place it or accidentally drag it into a folder on the Home screen. This will make it even harder to find.
If you don’t want to waste time searching for it, use the Search function built into iPhone or iPad to find it quickly.
Start by swiping down the home screen. Medicine mail Enter Search and the Mail app should appear in the search results.
If the Mail app doesn’t show up in the search results, follow the steps below to get it to show up.
Stage 1: Start by visiting the iPhone/iPad Settings app. Scroll down, tap Mail, then Siri & Search.
Step 2: Turn on the switch next to Show in Search.
Go back to the main screen. Search for the Mail app and it will show up in the results.
4. Reset Home Screen Layout
Using Search to always access the Mail app is no fun. But if you also hate the idea of navigating through multiple Home screens or folders to find it, you can always reset your iPhone or iPad’s Home screen layout. Doing so will place all apps in their default locations.
However, the Home screen reset also causes all folders to disappear. Therefore, only perform the following steps if really necessary.
Stage 1: Open the iPhone/iPad Settings app, tap General, then Reset.
Step 2: Tap Reset Home Screen Layout and then Reset Home Screen in the check box.
Go back to the main screen. You will see all the apps in their default locations. Since Mail is a native app, you can find it on the main Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
