Monument Valley 2 Edition: 5 Things to Know

In this article, we’ll go over everything you need to know about Monument Vally 2, the sequel to the original fan-favourite and critically acclaimed game in 2014. After launch for iPhone earlier this summerMonument Valley 2 finally available On Android as of November 6th.

If you loved Monument Valley, the latter offers everything you loved about the original, and then some. Back in October, the developers confirmed it’s coming to Android, and now we have all the details.

While the two games are similar, Monument Valley 2 isn’t just a replica of the first game. They added new game mechanics, an eerie yet comforting soundtrack, new characters to control, and a beautiful storyline. Whether you’ve just played the first game or are looking for something new, here’s what you need to know about this exciting 3D puzzle game.

Monument Valley 2 Android Version

As you can see from the video above, Monument Valley 2 saw a slight delay when coming to Android from iOS. After months of waiting and watching iPhone users enjoy this classic game, it’s finally available. The developers at UsTwo Games have perfected the game to work great on a range of Android devices.

Monument Valley 2 returned to the iTunes Store in June, so millions of iPhone users have already beaten the game. For those who haven’t played yet, try today or read on for more information.

The game costs $4.99 on the Google Play Store, just like iTunes, and it’s a one-time purchase. It won’t overwhelm you with in-app purchases like other popular mobile games. It’s a small price to pay for a game you can enjoy again and again.

Monument Valley 2 How to Play

The aim of this game is to solve puzzles and use your brain on your way to some kind of ultimate goal. Usually this is a door on the other side of the map that seems easy to navigate. However, you will immediately notice that the floor or walls move and other game mechanics that make it very difficult.

You touch the screen to control Ro, the main character in the game. If you watched the video above, you might have noticed that Ro has a new friend. In Monument Valley 2, there is another character that follows you through the puzzles, and at certain points you will even have the chance to control this new character.

Swipe and solve puzzles or go around obstacles to reach the door or the finish line. You also have to swipe, tap or drag items or obstacles to complete your missions and create a clear path.

It sounds pretty simple, but it isn’t. You’ll also love the soft and almost calming music that accompanies the game and each level. The new music has an eerie vibe, but in a good way. Combine that with the subtle story told without words and the game will pull you in quickly.

Thread Handles

Similar to Pokemon Go, UsTwo Games has also added what they call Spinning Handles to the game. Throughout the game and at different levels you will encounter these little handles. Swipe them across your screen, and as they spin, Sap will change your path, move obstacles and even move pieces of the puzzle to help you finish each map. Be careful though, not every handle will help you on the journey.

Note that while the main two characters, Ro and her daughter, are on any road where there is a Handle, you cannot turn it. So think ahead, be strategic, and plan a path before you start.

Game Mechanics

Many different aspects or gameplay mechanics will look familiar, but some completely different UsTwo games have added some nice changes to its second game. You will find all kinds of moving platforms, printing plates and optical illusions. Don’t think one-dimensionally and instead consider walking on the side of a road or upside down to reach your destination.

I find it easy to rotate my phone and see different angles and approaches before I start. Then use any of the pressure plates or handles to change the map as you see fit and where you need to finish.
