iPhone 7 Is Not Waterproof

During Apple’s event on September 7, the company was released the new and improved iPhone 7 and 7 Plus with dual cameras. During the live announcement on stage, Apple stated that both have an IP67 rating. YouTubers will test this, but regular users shouldn’t do the same at home.

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Note 7 series have an IP68 rating, meaning they can be submerged in 1.5 meters or 5 feet of water for more than 30 minutes. This is how Samsung markets their phones. The Galaxy Note 7 can take photos or record videos underwater and the S-Pen pen can write on the screen while underwater. This was shown on stage during the announcement. We say this only as a comparison so iPhone 7 buyers can limit their expectations.

At the end of the day, the new iPhone 7 is water resistant and will probably be fine if you drop it in the toilet, jump in the pool, or decide to run in the rain. It’s designed to survive getting wet, but don’t try it just to test it out. YouTube videos will show torture tests and we recommend watching them. Again, the warranty does not cover water damage.
