Apple would have had a smart idea to protect the iPhone Fold from drops.

We’ve been hearing about a foldable iPhone for years, which will now be called the iPhone Fold. Apple would even prepare a few different models to compete with Samsung in every segment. Apple might have had a clever idea to go into effect in this market largely dominated by the Korean giant.

One of the biggest drawbacks of foldable smartphones is their durability. Its foldable screens are much less durable than traditional iPhonesbecause it has to use a very thin layer of special bendable glass or even just a plastic shield for cheaper models.

According to a new patent application filed on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website, Apple would come up with a solution to protect its foldable iPhone from drops.. Titled “Screen Protection Techniques Using Self-Retracting Display Device and Drop Detection”, the technology is exactly as the name suggests, namely- automatically turns off the smartphone’s screen in the event of a fall.

According to the statement, there will be some kind of sensor, such as an accelerometer, inside the device. If it detects that the iPhone has been dropped, the sensor will electronically adjustable locking mechanism which turns the phone off quickly. In conclusion, If the iPhone falls badly, its most fragile internal screen should be well protected.

Apple has always been dedicated to making durable phones, and so this patent fits that strategy perfectly. for now It’s hard to say whether this technology is present in the final device, because a significant part of the patents a brand receives often do not come to light. Apple is also known to be preparing a giant MacBook Pro with a foldable screen for 2025, so we might see this tech on that device as well, although it’s less likely to drop a laptop.
