Arcade-style racing games are a dime a dime on mobile, and Ridge Racer Slipstream is one of the newest additions to the pack. You’ve been playing strictly religiously for the past few days and are probably looking for ways to gain some competitive edge. We have some tips and tricks that you might find helpful.
The Ridge Racer series has mostly remained under the radar, outpacing other mobile racing games like Real Racing and Asphalt, but Ridge Racer Slipstream is one of the most fun racing games we’ve played in recent history and unlike other arcade racers, Ridge Racer Slipstream lets you go faster and get to the finish line first. It relies on a few key racing elements to help you reach your destination.
Ridge Racer Slipstream is available for free on iPhone and iPad on the iTunes App StoreAs with Android devices on Google Play. It’s not often that we see a popular racing game for free, so we can take advantage of the opportunity and use these tips and tricks.
drift
Drifting is an essential part of Ridge Racer Slipstream and it’s really easy to do. That’s why you’ll want to drift as often as possible to get through the turns as quickly as possible. Forget everything racing simulators have taught you because it won’t work in this game. When entering a sharp turn, make sure you don’t slow down and instead start turning in the direction of the turn and tap the break (don’t hold).
This will make your car start to skid. Of course, you’ll want to make sure you keep driving as you continue through the turn, so it’s important to go in the opposite direction a bit so your car doesn’t spin. If you do it properly, you’ll easily pass the turn and smoke the competition.
It is also important to know which will drag and which will not. Drift isn’t necessary for staggered turns – mostly just sharp turns, so be sure to trust the course map to know what type of turn the next turn is.
Drifting also fills up your boost meter, and when it’s full, you can release it to get nitrous oxide for a few seconds. It’s best to use your support on the long straights and in the last second before the finish line.
slipstreaming
The name of the game is named Ridge Racer Slipstream for a reason. Getting behind an opponent will reduce air drag and give you a huge speed boost. As you approach your opponent’s rear bumper, whip them from behind and pass the slingshot past them.
This is an ideal strategy for a last-second win where you pass the winner just before you reach the finish line.
Use Headphones
If you can, it’s best to use headphones during the race to get the best competitive advantage. Headphones let you hear where an opponent is approaching you, whether on the left or right, or directly behind you.
If an opponent is directly behind you, they could likely be using you to flow, so take this opportunity to break the line while on the straight. Otherwise, if they’re coming from your left or right, you can quickly block them before they have a chance to pass.
If you use these tips and tricks, you will have a better chance to beat the competition and move on to the next level. Good luck!
