If paying your own taxes isn’t your thing, use Twitter or Facebook to ask your friends and followers who they recommend. Oftentimes, individual or local tax professionals can offer a better price than you can find in a store like H&R Block, but finding the right accountant can be difficult. Look for real replies from real friends and followers, rather than spam replies that are bound to come to Twitter.
If you need more time to prepare your taxes, you can automatically get a six-month extension to file your taxes by requesting one from the IRS. To do this, you need to fill IRS Form 4868 and you’ll have an extra six months to file your taxes. But be warned, you won’t get an extension to make any payments. You still need to pay your best estimate of tax due by April 18.
