Big day for iPhone users: Today, Apple will distribute iOS 17, the new major update for the operating system of its smartphones. The latter, which was announced with much fanfare during WWDC in June, popped up again during the iPhone 15 presentation keynote last week.
At least we can say that this update will change many things on our iPhones. From Standby to Daily, through Shareplay, the Apple brand has introduced many features that can revolutionize the use of your smartphone. But first of all, it is better to check whether everything is fine with its reception.
How to properly prepare your iPhone for the iOS 17 update?
In fact, it is always good to make sure that your iPhone will not encounter any problems during the update. Although this condition is rare, it is not impossible and can be prevented with a few simple steps. Follow the leader.
1/ Make sure your iPhone is compatible with iOS 17
This may seem obvious, but your iPhone may be too old to get iOS 17 anymore. While Apple is an example of software tracking of its devices in the industry, they are no less subject to obsolescence after a certain period of time. Fortunately, the Apple brand has published the full list of iPhones compatible with iOS 17, which will make our job much easier. It’s over there :

If your iPhone is on the list, congratulations, you will be able to install iOS 17 without any worries. If this is not the case, you will unfortunately have to make do with the current version of the operating system before deciding to opt for a newer model.
2/ Backup your iPhone in the Cloud
The worst thing that can happen to your iPhone during an update like iOS 17 is losing all your data. As described above, this phenomenon is very rare, but no less present. Therefore, as a precaution, it is better to make a backup backup that will allow you to recover all your files and photos in case of a problem. Note that we have chosen the iCloud method here, but it is also possible to back up your iPhone to your PC. Here’s how to do this:
- Make sure you’re connected to a network Wi-Fi network
- open them Settings then press profile photo
- Go to section on iCloud Later iCloud Backup
- Press Back up now
All you have to do is let your iPhone do the work. Make sure you stay connected to the WiFi network throughout the process.
3/ Free up storage space
iOS updates are often very large and can take up a lot of space on your iPhone when downloading. If the latter has only a few megabytes of storage left, you may not be able to continue with the installation. If you, like everyone else, have a few unnecessary files and apps on your iPhone, now is the time to delete them and free up some space.
Note that you can directly control which file types take up the most storage space on your iPhone; This allows you to better target which items to delete. To do this, go to: Settings > General > Storage. A graph will then appear with a detailed summary of your storage.
