To help parents monitor their kids’ safe web browsing apps, Microsoft is introducing a new kids mode in its Chromium-based Edge browser. Use Kids Mode in Microsoft Edge
Before we begin, it is important to note that: kid mode availability is limited to US English on Windows and macOS. Additionally, as of this writing, child mode is getting a controlled distribution in Edge, so you won’t need this feature even if you’re using the latest Edge Canary. That said, we can expect general availability of the feature in the coming months.
What is Kids Mode?
Kids mode is a new Microsoft Edge feature that helps parents efficiently manage the way their kids surf the web. How to enable Kids Mode?
1. If you have access to the feature, You will see child mode in Edge’s profile switcher. Access the profile switcher from the top right corner of the browser and Click ‘Browse in Kids Mode’. Microsoft states that logging into the browser with your MS account will sync child mode settings between your devices.
2. Edge now takes you Determine your child’s age range. Available options are ages 5-8 and ages 9 and up. Immediately after selecting the age range, your current browsing window will close and a new kid mode window will open.
Change Kids Mode Theme
After entering the child mode, you can change its look and feel with custom themes. It is worth noting that theme applied in child mode does not affect the theme of your normal browsing sessions. Click the ‘Colors and background’ button to change the theme in child mode. Choose one of the themes and click ‘Done’ to apply.
Allow Specific Websites in Kids Mode
You cannot set website permissions while in child mode. To do this, you must be in the profile you used to create the child mode.
1. When you leave the child mode, go to Ssettings-> Family to allow certain websites. You can access the Settings page by clicking on the horizontal three-dot menu in the upper right corner. Click on ‘Manage sites allowed in Kids Mode’ From the Family section to continue.
2. You can now browse through the predefined allow list and choose to remove sites by clicking the X button. Also, you can Allow new websites using the ‘add website’ button.
How to exit Kids Mode?
To exit Child mode, click on the Child mode icon in the upper right corner and Select ‘Exit Kids Mode window’. You must now authenticate using your device’s password so that the browser knows that the child is not trying to exit the mode without the parent’s permission.
Use Kids Mode in Microsoft Edge
