Samsung’s Do Not Disturb mode mutes all calls, texts, alerts, notifications and media sounds. You can customize it, allow exceptions like a family member or repeat callers, and even hide visual notifications. Here’s how to do it To start today.
How to Use Do Not Disturb on Galaxy S9
I set DnD to automatically turn on at 10:30pm every night and close at 6:30pm. So that nothing disturbs me while I sleep. You’ll probably want a different program and it’s really easy to change that.
- Go to the app tray or tap the gear-shaped settings button in the notification bar
- Tap on
- Scroll down
- Open , or , programs, exceptions and more
If you need to instantly disable any sound, just turn the switch and you’re ready. Note that DnD will completely mute all sounds and notifications, including alarms. This is an important point to note so you don’t miss an alarm and be late for school or work.
However, if you plan to use it more than once, customize the experience to your needs. You can get rid of everything except alarms and much more. Including other exceptions and repeaters. If a family member calls 3-4 times in a row, DnD assumes it’s something important and lets the call come through.
There are even exceptions like when certain friends or family members can call or text you while everything else is muted until the morning. Select a contact from your phone and add it to the exception list. You can allow certain apps to ignore DnD mode while others remain silent. Everything depends on you. And finally, certain events, tasks, or reminders may arrive if you let them.
Do Not Disturb Fast Pass
You can instantly turn DnD on or off in the quick settings pop-up bar on the Galaxy S9. That way, for urgent meetings or important occasions, you can quickly toggle it on or off without messing up your settings menu.
Pull down the notification bar, swipe down a second time and tap the DnD button as shown below. If you’re wondering what each notification bar icon means, it’s the circle with a line on it.
This is easier than going into settings and doing all the other steps. You can also quickly tap again to turn it off so that notifications and sounds start coming. Otherwise, we recommend only setting up a custom schedule.
After you set Do Not Disturb to your liking, make a schedule. That way it opens and closes at the same time every day, night or weekend. Now, have a smooth experience on your phone. While you’re here, take a look at 35 other Galaxy S9 tips and tricks.
