This guide will walk you through how to set up and use Do Not Disturb mode on Galaxy S8 and why you want to do it. Do not disturb mode is a popular feature that will help you keep your phone completely silent during important times of the day.
Whether you’re walking into a meeting at work, school, or just want to keep your phone on silent, this is the easiest way. You can instantly turn the do not disturb feature on or off, or set a custom timer to fit your schedule.
Do Not Disturb mode on Galaxy S8 mutes all calls, texts, alerts, notifications and media sounds. You can allow exceptions, fully customize, and even hide visual notifications, such as a family member or repeat callers. Here’s how to set it up.
How to Use Do Not Disturb on Galaxy S8
You can turn this mode on quickly or set it to open automatically on a schedule. I set DnD to open at 10:30pm and close at 6:30pm every night. So nothing bothers me while I sleep, and that includes visual notifications.
- Go to the app tray or tap the gear-shaped settings button in the notification bar
- choose
- Scroll down
- Open , or , programs, exceptions and more
To quickly mute everything, turn the switch to ON. Or tap the option to go in and make some changes. Note that DnD will completely mute all sounds and notifications, including alarms.
However, if you plan to use it more than once, customize what goes silent to get the most out of your phone. You can get rid of everything except alarms or certain exceptions. We love the repeat callers exception. If a family member calls 3-4 times in a row, DnD lets the call become useless assuming someone calls multiple times is important enough.
There are even exceptions like when certain friends or family members can call or text you while everything else is muted until the morning. Select a contact from your phone and add it to the exception list. You can allow certain apps to ignore DnD mode while others remain silent. Note that certain events, tasks, or reminders may follow, if you let them.

You can also instantly turn DnD on or off in the quick settings dropdown, although a custom program is the best route. That way, for urgent meetings or important occasions, you can quickly toggle it on or off without messing up your settings menu.
Pull down the notification bar, swipe down a second time and tap the DnD button as shown below. If you’re wondering what each notification bar icon means, it’s the circle with a line on it.
This is easier than going into settings and doing all the other steps. Then, when you’re ready, pull down again and tap the icon to disable do not disturb mode. Getting your phone back to normal as soon as you leave work or a meeting.
