If you use iTunes to manage media on all your iOS devices, you’re probably annoyed that the software starts syncing media right after you connect the device to your computer. Well, we’ve all been there and it takes a lot of time to complete, especially if you have plenty of content. Most of us prefer to do the syncing at our own discretion, rather than letting iTunes do it for us automatically. However, there is a way to disable this Auto-Sync feature in iTunes. Once done, simply click the Sync button to manually transfer the content as you wish. Well, if you want to disable this feature, let’s have a look How to turn off auto-sync in iTunes:
Turning Off Auto-Sync in iTunes
note: I’ve managed to disable automatic syncing in the latest stable version of iTunes for Windows (12.6.2) to prevent my iPhone 7 Plus from automatically transferring and receiving content. Even if you are using iTunes on Mac, the procedure is pretty much the same for both operating systems.
First of all, connect your iOS device to your computer with the latest version of iTunes installed and follow these steps to disable auto-sync feature immediately:
- When you connect your iOS device, you will see a device icon just below the top menu in iTunes. simply click the device icon and go to the next menu.
- Here, under the options section in the right pane, uncheck the box right next to “This iPhone (or iPod or iPad) connected”. Now, click “Completed” It is located in the upper right corner to save your settings. If you want to sync your iTunes manually, you can do so easily by clicking the Sync button right next to it.
- now go to Edit -> Preferences It is located in the top menu to disable the auto sync feature. You can also use the hotkey “Ctrl +” To easily enter iTunes preferences.
- Now a small window will open on your screen showing all the iTunes preferences you can customize. Here, Go to the Devices section and check the box right next to “Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically”. When you’re done with that, just click OK to save your preferences.
That’s pretty much all you need to do to stop iTunes from automatically syncing your media between all your iOS devices.
