How to Set Up Chromecast with Google Cast App 1

How to Set Up Chromecast with Google Cast App

Google Chromecast, now called Google Cast, creates an inexpensive wireless receiver for video and other content. Apps and phones with built-in Google Cast support send video or other content wirelessly to a Chromecast-connected TV or projector.

In this setup guide, we will show users how to connect their Google Chromecast to a TV or projector and then use the Google Cast app (Free) Android and iOS) to set and configure.

Connecting Google Chromecast to a Display
chromecast plugged into tv

this Google Chromecast ($35 from the Play Devices Store) easily connects to a TV, monitor, or projector. Chromecast has an HDMI adapter that plugs into the display. Chromecast also requires a USB cable. Chromecast comes with both a USB cable and a USB to AC adapter. Plug the micro USB end into the Chromecast. Plug the other end into the USB to AC adapter or the TV’s USB port. I prefer to use the TV’s USB port, but if you’re using your USB port to show pictures or videos, you may want to use the adapter and an AC outlet.

Turn on the display and set the input of the display to the HDMI port connected to the Chromecast. It should show the following screen.

Configure Chromecast with Google Cast App

Install the Google Cast app on your phone or tablet. Users can do this from an iPhone, Android smartphone, iPad or Android tablet. We’ll show users how to do this with an Android phone, but the screens will look the same on an iPhone or tablet.

Run the Google Cast app and you will see something similar to the left screenshot above. The Chromecast usually displays its name with a number after the word and says “Setup required” below the name. Tap on it to get started.

If the Chromecast is not showing, check a few things.

If none of the above work, you may have a faulty Chromecast. Communication Google customer support.

On a working installation, the right screenshot above appears. Tap on it.

The app shows the left screen above when trying to connect to the Chromecast. You will see the following screen on the TV. Once the app is connected to the device, it will display the code specific to each Chromecast. Tap on it if you see it. If you don’t tap on it (see screenshot above right).

After tapping I SEE THE CODE, the left screen below appears in the app.

Enter a unique name. I chose to name the Chromecast based on where I installed it.

The app provides two options to turn it on or off.

After naming the Chromecast and turning the above options on or off, tap on it to save the name to the Chromecast. The right screen above appears in the application. This screen allows the user to select a Wi-Fi network. Tap the drop-down arrow to choose from available networks. If the network uses password protection, enter the password here. Tap on it to make it visible to check if it is correct. Then tap on it. When the application finishes adding the network, users will see the following screen on their screen.

chromecast ready to stream

The “ready to cast” screen means the Chromecast is ready to receive video from the phone or tablet. If the connection process fails, you can see the following screen on the left. This happens when the app does not initially connect to the device.

After correctly changing the username and then adding the network information, the above right screen appears in the application. Users can find apps with Chromecast support by tapping the button.

There is one more step to set things up. The Chromecast contains beautiful images that appear on the screen when the user is not casting anything to the Chromecast. This includes art photos, images from earth space, and more. The Google Cast app calls this “background settings”. We created a guide to change background settings for users to watch.

How to Cast to a Chromecast

When it’s time to cast a video to a Google Chromecast, open the app with Chromecast support, launch the video and tap the Cast button on the video.

Users can also cast to Chromecast without connecting to Wi-Fi using Guest mode. The video below shows users how to install and use it.

Once Chromecast starts using Guest mode, users can cast from their phone or tablet to the device using an app that sends video to Chromecast. It doesn’t work in some apps like Google Slides. It works on things like YouTube, Netflix, and other video apps. It also works with audio apps like Google Play Music.
