Messaging with your friends on Facebook Messenger feels like home, right? Now you can react to your friends’ messages with any emoji. With this new change, you’re not tied to just a few specific emojis. Sounds fun, right? Let’s understand the new Messenger reactions and customize them for your use.

How to React to Facebook Messages with Any Emoji on Android, iPhone and iPad
Launch the Facebook Messenger app and open the chat. Touch and hold the message you want to react to. The emoji panel with six default emojis will open. Tap the Add (+) icon to react with any custom emoji. The emoji screen will open. Choose the emoji to react to. Use the search to find the emoji of your choice. You can also add new emojis to the panel as shown below.
Fly: To remove an emoji reaction, tap the reaction below the message. Then tap on your emoji to remove it.
How to Customize Emoji Responses in the Emoji Panel
The above method can be a bit cumbersome if you regularly react with the same emoji. For example, let’s say you regularly use the fire emoji as a message reaction. Instead of searching for the fire emoji every time, you can replace an existing emoji in the panel with an emoji of your choice.
Note: If you’re part of a group conversation in Messenger, everyone in the chat can see the responses to all messages.

Tap the emoji you want to change from the top panel. Then tap on the emoji you want to change from the bottom panel. Similarly, you can change other emoji reactions. Tap the checkmark icon at the top (Android) or the Done button (iPhone/iPad) to save the changes.
Note: You can add only 6 emojis to the panel and new message reactions will appear in all chats.
Once complete, the new emoji will appear in the emoji panel. You can change the emojis in the panel as much as you want.
How to Change Double Tap Response on Facebook Messenger
Similar to Instagram, you can react to a message in Facebook Messenger by double-tapping it. By default, a heart response is sent when you double-tap. However, you can customize this behavior.
Tap and hold any message to change the double tap response. Tap the Add (+) icon in the emoji panel. Tap on Customize on the next screen.
Tap the heart emoji to select it. Then select the desired emoji from the bottom panel that you want to use for double tapping. Tap the checkmark icon at the top or the Done button. Now, every time you tap twice, the new reaction will be used.

How to Reset Custom Emoji Responses in Messenger
If you want to reset all the emoji reactions in the panel with the default emoji set, you can do that too. Tap and hold any message to open the emoji reaction bar. Tap the Add (+) icon. Then tap Customize.
Tap the Reset icon (Android) or the Reset text (iPhone/iPad) to revert to the original set of emojis. Tap Done or the checkmark icon to save the changes.
Bonus: How to Quickly Change Emoji in Messenger Chat
Besides message reactions, you can quickly send emojis without opening the emoji panel. The default emoji is the Like button and you will find it next to the typing area. You can replace this Like button with an emoji of your choice. Tapping the emoji will send it quickly.
Note: The default emoji is separate for all chats. Everywhere you want to change you will have to change it one by one in the chats.
To change the default message emoji on PC, open the chat whose emoji you want to change and click on the info (i) icon at the top. After that, click on the Change Emoji button in the message and select the desired emoji.
Open the chat thread in the Messenger mobile apps. Tap the name of the person at the top. Then tap Emoji and choose the new emoji.

Facebook Messenger Emoji Responses Not Working
To change the custom response, if you don’t see the plus (+) icon next to the message, you must update the Messenger app. If that doesn’t fix the problem, uninstall and reinstall Messenger. Find out what happened by uninstalling Facebook Messenger.
