After announcing its new vertical tabs UI in March last year, Microsoft finally rolled out the feature to the public earlier this month. The Redmond giant is now working on ways to improve usability in vertical tabs mode. Recently started testing the possibility of hiding the title bar when using vertical tabs. Also, if you think the title bar is taking up unnecessary space and you want to disable it, here is how you can hide the title bar in Microsoft Edge.
Hide Title Bar in Vertical Tabs Mode in Microsoft Edge
In its current state, the title bar appears at the top of the browser above the address bar. Since users can already see the title of the web page in the left sidebar, the top title bar may seem redundant to some users. That’s exactly why the company is looking for ways to remove it.
Ability to hide title bar currently only available in Microsoft Edge Dev and Edge Canary. Also, the feature is hidden behind a feature flag. If you’re using Edge in any of these channels, here’s how you can disable the title bar in vertical tabs mode.
note: I tested the feature in Edge Dev version 91.0.825.0 on a Windows 10 laptop. If you don’t see the flag, make sure you’re using the latest version of the browser on Dev or Canary channels. You can check for updates in “Help and feedback -> About Microsoft Edge” or at edge://settings/help.
1. Open Edge Dev or Canary and border://flags. In the search box, Type ‘Hide vertical tabs title bar’ to find the required flag. Alternatively, you can paste the following address into your browser to access the flag directly:
edge://flags/#edge-vertical-tabs-hide-titlebar
2. Here, select ‘Enabled’ from the drop-down menu and restart the browser.

3. If you are wondering what the browser looks like before and after disabling the title bar, take a look at the images below. It looks much cleaner, doesn’t it?
Disable Title Bar in Vertical Tabs UI in Microsoft Edge
I think the browser looks more modern and clean after hiding the title bar. We can expect Microsoft to add a toggle in the near future that will help users easily enable or disable the title bar when using vertical tabs.
