How to Get Mac-Like Touch Bar on Android Devices

In the fall of 2016, Apple introduced their new MacBook with Touch Bar, which is considered by many to be a gimmick, but it can do a lot of cool things. One of the most notable features of the Touch Bar is the Control Strip, which basically gives the user access to quick toggles to control various system settings. Inspired by this iOS developer LaughingQuoll, For jailbroken iOS devices, it has developed a Touch Bar-like app that allows the user to block the Control Strip feature on their device. Now we all know that Android cannot be left behind. Using LaughingQuoll’s app as inspiration, XDA Developer alecot18 has developed an app for Android called TouchBar that mimics the Touch Bar’s Control Strip on Android devices.

The best part is that the TouchBar app is completely free and doesn’t require root access. So if you like the Control Strip feature of the Touch Bar, Here’s how you can get a MacBook-like Touch Bar on your Android device:

  • To get started, you need to enable the installation of third-party APK files.. To do this, go to Android Settings and tap on “Security” choice. Make sure it’s there once. “Unknown sources” option is ticked.

  • Once done, Download “TouchBar for Android” Download and install the app from here.

note: At the time of writing this article, the app only supports Android Lollipop (5.0) and above.

  • After installing the application, make sure grant all permissions Like Screen Layout, Write System Settings and Do Not Disturb Access.

  • Now you can tap the bottom zone of your screen (above the navigation bar) to view and interact with the Touch Bar.
