While the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller is pretty cool, and I really like the new Create button on it, your old DualShock 4 isn’t useless. Actually, you can easily use PS4 controller with your PS5 to play PS4 games on your new console. This is pretty awesome, but sometimes you may find that your PlayStation 4 DualShock controller is not connecting to your PS5. If this is happening to you too, there is a very easy fix. Here is how to fix PS4 controller not connecting to PlayStation 5.
PS5 vs PS4 Controller Connection Issues (Fixed)
Although I have played many new PS5 games, some games that I enjoy playing with my friends are made for PS4. Things like Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat, and Cricket 19 are all PS4 games. This means I can easily connect a PS4 controller to the PS5 and use it to play local multiplayer games on PlayStation with my friends. You can also install PS4 games on an external hard drive on PS5, which is great for saving storage space.
But recently I ran into an issue where my PS4 DualShock would not connect to my PS5. When the PS button is pressed, the light strip will flash white for a while before the controller turns off again. I tried charging it and using a USB cable to connect it to the PS5 but to no avail.
In this post, I will tell you how to fix this problem easily, so keep reading.
Fix PS4 Controller Not Connecting with PlayStation 5
If your old DualShock 4 won’t connect to your PS5, here’s what to do.
- With your PS4 controller turned off, press the PS button and the ‘share’ button until the light bar flashes white. This puts the DualShock 4 into pairing mode and basically you connect the PS4 controller to Android, iPhone and other devices this way too.
- On your PS5 go to Settings -> Accessories.
- In the General tab, go to ‘Bluetooth Accessories’.
- Under the ‘Accessories Found’ section you will see ‘Wireless Controller’. Select the controller to pair with your PlayStation 5.
You can now select the user using the DualShock 4 controller and start playing local multiplayer games on your PlayStation 5 without two PS5 controllers.
Which Games on PS5 Support PS4 Controller?
The new DualSense controller is miles ahead of the PS4 DualShock controller, so you cannot play PS5 games with the old PS4 controller. But every PS4 game you install on your PS5 can be played with the PS4 controller without any problems.
