iOS 8.3 was released today, but if you’re having trouble with the new update, you can upgrade to iOS 8.2 for a limited time.
iOS 8.3 includes a host of new features, including more racially diverse emojis and support for using CarPlay over the air, along with the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.
Normally, you can’t go back to an older version of iOS, but Apple is still signing iOS 8.2, which means you have time to revert to that older version if needed.
If you want to switch from iOS 8.3 to iOS 8.2, you’ll want to do so as soon as possible because it’s only a matter of time before Apple stops signing iOS 8.2. You cannot downgrade later. Fortunately, Apple is still signing iOS 8.2 at the moment, so if you’re having trouble with iOS 8.3, you have some time to lock down iOS 8.2. Here’s how to do it.
Unfortunately, Apple’s stopped signing iOS 8.2so you can no longer downgrade from iOS 8.3.
downgrade to iOS 8.2
Since iOS 8.3 is the latest version of iOS, you cannot open iTunes and “update” to an older version. You have to add a few more steps, but luckily it’s pretty easy.
Make sure to backup your iOS device before doing anything as this method will completely clean your iPhone or iPad. Fortunately, we have a handy guide on how to do this.
First visit this website (seen above) and download iOS 8.2 IPSW for your specific iOS device. These files range from 1.5GB to 2GB for iPhones and iPads, so be aware that downloading may take some time.
After downloading the file, plug your iOS device into your computer and open iTunes. Go to your device’s summary page and press and hold the key on your keyboard or if you’re using Windows. Keep holding the key while clicking in iTunes.
Then browse to find the IPSW file you downloaded and open it. iTunes will start restoring your iPhone and install iOS 8.2.
After the process is complete, your iOS device should now be running a clean slate version of iOS 8.2. From there, you’ll want to restore your backup by going to the device summary page in iTunes and clicking . Give it time to restore all your apps and settings, and you’ll eventually be back to running iOS 8.2 as before updating to iOS 8.3.
If You Want to Jailbreak
Unfortunately, iOS 8.3 or iOS 8.2 can be jailbroken and you can’t downgrade further to iOS 8.1.2 (which is the latest jailbreakable version of iOS), which if it’s a newer version. However, if you are still using iOS 8.1.2, you can easily jailbreak your device with the latest jailbreak from TaiG.
The TaiG jailbreak currently only works for installation on Windows machines, and there’s no word on whether a Mac version will be on the way, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it soon. Fortunately, there is another jailbreak tool you can use to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad on Mac.
If you’re not running iOS 8.1.2, you should wait for an iOS 8.3 jailbreak, which shouldn’t be too far off. The TaiG jailbreak team responsible for the iOS 8.1 jailbreak already has a jailbreak for iOS 8.2 beta 1 and 2. But there have been newer betas since then, and Apple has closed access to the first and second betas of iOS 8.2. , obviously, but the company hasn’t fixed these vulnerabilities, which means iOS 8.2 is still jailbreakable, and iOS 8.3 as an extension is most likely the same way.
On TaiG websiteThey noted that they have “already completed untethered jailbreak support for iOS 8.2,” which could mean that the TaiG team has the newer exploits needed to crack iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3 if Apple patches existing exploits that are being used. Of course, TaiG will not disclose these vulnerabilities until an iOS 8.3 jailbreak is released which should only be a matter of time at this point.
