How to Delete Your Galaxy S5 Browser History

Privacy is an ongoing issue and concern today, especially when we use our smartphones for anything. If you’re the proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and want to learn how to delete or remove your browser history, we’ve got you covered.

There are many different reasons why a user might want to delete their internet browser or search history on a smartphone and we are sure you have reasons so here we will explain how to do it on Galaxy S5.

As for removing your browser history on Android, here are a few different scenarios. A big factor is that there are multiple different 3rd party browsers for Android and they all have slightly different settings. Samsung’s Galaxy S5 (or all Galaxy devices) has its own browser called “Internet” and that’s where we’re going to focus today.

If you are logged into your Google account, which we assume you are using Android, every website you visit or search will be recorded and remembered. This is as long as you don’t turn off your history or use an incognito tab, which we’ll talk more about below.

Removing your browser history and search history are two different things and below we will basically explain how to clear browser history on Samsung Galaxy S5. If you don’t want your kids to see what you bought for their birthday, or for other reasons we won’t go into, here’s how to do it.

Instructions

As we mentioned above, Google Play Store has multiple options and 3rd party browsers ready to be used by users and manufacturers. Google Chrome is the most popular these days and on most devices, as we’ll talk about below, but most Galaxy S5 owners use the stock built-in browser. So let’s start with that.

While using the “Internet” app on the Galaxy S5 with a web browser, tap the three-dot menu button near the top right corner of the screen. This will bring up the drop-down menu where you will scroll down to select “settings” and then go to “Privacy”.

After entering the privacy settings menu, you will see several options to customize user privacy on the device. One of the popular ones is whether the device remembers form data and passwords. I keep this turned on so I don’t have to retype passwords but I also have a lock screen security measure.

The last option, pictured for you below, is the one you’ll want to choose.

Go ahead and tap on the “Delete Personal Data” option which will take you to the full list of web browser history options. From here you can clear your browser history, cache, cookies and site data, and even your autofill and password information. Autofill is useful because it remembers email and login information, so don’t delete it unless you absolutely have to.

Most users will be fine by selecting the first three boxes shown above, then actually removing all of your information by hitting the ok button. The process takes a few seconds to more than a minute, depending on how much you surf the web or how often the user deletes their tracks. Once you have chosen the one you want and done, the Galaxy S5 will completely clear your browser history. He’s gone and you’re ready. Whatever you did, you completely covered your tracks.

The process on the Galaxy S5 for Google Chrome is basically the same, just labeled slightly differently. Press the same three-dot menu button and select “History”, then tap the “Clear Browsing Data” button at the bottom. You will get a similar checkbox option as shown above and you can control what you delete forever and what stays. The only benefit of Chrome is that you can remove individual site visits instead of all or nothing, so it doesn’t look like you’re hiding your tracks.

Incognito Mode

You can use something called Incognito Mode to prevent this from even being a problem. While in the Galaxy S5 browser, go to the menu and enable Incognito Mode. This ensures that the browser does not remember or save any history, passwords, logins or tracking what you are doing. This is your best bet and is something many users should consider.

There are multiple browsers in the Google Play Store that do this by default and will never, ever remember your data. Dolphin Zero it’s a good one, and even the less popular Opera Browser has a browser-wide privacy mode you can enable. I’d stick with the stock browser or Chrome, but each has its own.
