How To Check If Your Apps Will Work With iOS 11

Most of the apps on your iPhone or iPad should still work when you download Apple’s iOS 11 update, but there’s a chance some won’t.

Next week, Apple will pull the iOS 11 update out of beta and make it generally available. The iOS 11 release date has been confirmed for September 19, and we expect the update to be available at and around 10:00 pm Pacific time.

Apple’s new operating system comes with some major changes, including upgrades to Siri, Control Center, Live Photos, and Apple Pay.

The release of iOS 11 will also end iOS support for 32-bit apps. When iOS 11 arrives, apps that haven’t been updated to support 64-bit will no longer work. Thousands of iOS apps reportedly in the chopping block including some popular games.

While most of your games and other apps have probably been updated to support iOS 11, some developers may be lagging behind. In some cases, the developer may have stopped supporting the app. If an app has not been updated for a long time, the developer is likely to discontinue support.

In the build of iOS 11 release, it’s a good idea to check which apps will work and which won’t with Apple’s new update. It will only take a few seconds and will help prepare you and your device for the transition to the new operating system.

Be sure to check your apps before the iOS 11 release date.

How To Check If Apps Will Work With iOS 11?

To control the apps on your iPhone or iPad, you’ll want to open your Settings app. From here tap on General, About and then tap on Apps.

You should see a list of apps there (or maybe not, depending on what you have on your device). Examples include Flappy Bird (yes it still exists on a phone) and the YouTube Capture app.

If you see an app listed here, it won’t work on your device when you upgrade from your current iOS version to iOS 11.

If you don’t see any apps listed on this screen, your apps are not compromised. Once you download Apple’s new operating system, they should work normally.

If one of your favorite apps or games is listed here, there’s not much you can do. It’s up to the developers to update their apps to support 64-bit and iOS 11.

Those who want to continue using a 32-bit app should stay on iOS 10 and/or ask the developer to update the app.
