One of the most frequently used apps on iPhone and iPad is the Messages app, which offers SMS text messages, MMS picture messages and iMessages on iPhone and iMessage chats on iPad. With iOS 7, in addition to the existing gestures, Apple added a few new gestures to the Messages app that bring additional features without the fuss. If you are a heavy SMS, MMS or iMessage user, you should consider these 5 pro tips to get the most out of your iMessage experience.
5 iMessage Pro Tips:
- When entering your messages or scrolling through pictures within a conversation, swipe horizontally from the left edge of the screen to the middle to go to the previous menu. This takes you back to the previous screen.
- To quickly navigate to the top of your conversation in your main thread or your conversation list, simply tap at the top of the screen, where the clock or time is displayed in the middle. This will quickly bring you back to the top.
- Normally, the Messages app only selectively displays timestamps every few messages sent or received in a thread. If you want more detail, you can perform a gesture by swiping from the right edge to the middle to get all the timestamps, which are usually hidden to avoid clutter.
- Instead of copying and pasting a text or picture message to send it to someone else, you can long press the message inside the message thread to see additional menu options. When the pop-up menu appears, tap more and then tap the arrow at the bottom right of the screen; you can forward that text or MMS to another recipient.
- With the consumerization of IT, one problem many employees have is that their friends sometimes send personal messages to a work phone that may not be appropriate if another employee or your boss sees it. Instead of deleting the entire conversation, you can delete a particular message or image in that message thread by long-pressing it and then clicking the trash can in the lower-left corner of the screen by pressing harder.
