Google announced a ton of new features for its products at the Google I/O 2018 conference, and some of them have already been made available to the public. One such feature is the new Smart Typing feature for Gmail, which gives users smart suggestions as they write their email. However, the feature is still in the testing phase and as such, you don’t have access to it by default. We’re going to change that as we show you how you can enable Smart Typing in Gmail in this article:
Enable Smart Typing in Gmail
note: I tried the new Smart Typing feature on both Gmail.com account and G Suite account and it works flawlessly on both.
- First step make sure you use New version of Gmail. If not, see our detailed article on how to enable it.
- Now that you’re sure you’re using the new Gmail, Click on the settings cog and then click on “Settings”.
3. Here, Search for “Experimental Access” in the “General” section Select the option and click the checkbox to enable it.
3. Now, scroll to the bottom of the page and Click “Save Changes”.
4. That’s it. Now Google will give you suggestions to automatically complete your sentences as you type. You can see the feature working in the images below.

Enjoy New Smart Typing in Gmail
While the Smart Typing feature was still in its testing phase, I was quite surprised how well it worked. Yes, the recommendations are not always in place, but I can see this feature being a great tool for users who have to deal with a lot of email every day.
