Since its launch in 2012, Ingress still has millions of players. Almost as much as Pokémon GO. But with a brand new flashy user interface, quick-scroll menus, a new inventory management system, map gestures and Facebook account linking, some of them are experiencing a lot of Ingress Prime issues.
Whether this is an error loading Ingress account data, other Prime login issues, GPS not found, or if your old data is not syncing we are here to help. This is a summary of some common issues and possible fixes. We will then continually update this with more information or community workarounds as they are discovered.
Login Prime Issues
How to Fix Ingress Prime Login Issues
While there are many minor bugs and issues in Prime that Niantic will eventually fix, login issues will continue to pop up. So far, we’ve been seeing numerous complaints that agents see an error similar to our picture below when they open the game. This popup says “Error loading login account data”.
Looks like this is nothing more than a server issue, considering the game is over 5 years old you would think they would fix it by now. Basically, too many people are trying to log in at the same time and the server can’t keep up with the demand and find the player information.
However, this may be due to a bad internet connection, poor service or not enough bars. Make sure you have a good WiFi connection or solid 4G LTE. Wait a few minutes and try again or restart your phone and try to log in again. Niantic is also aware of the “Account Not Found” error people keep getting and still is. investigate the problem and looking for a solution. We’ll update when we learn more.
Introduction Prime Battery Drain
Ingress Prime works by using your device’s Wi-Fi/Internet and GPS sensor to know where you are in the world. Your data connection, GPS, WiFi, sensors and more work seamlessly while you play. As a result, the game is battery life hog.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a fix for you. Ingress Prime does not have a battery saver mode like Pokémon GO. So keep your screen brightness low and do what every other hardcore user does and buy a portable battery charger.
GPS Not Found (and other GPS issues)
Similar to login issues, we see tons of complaints No GPS found or just about Ingress Prime GPS issues in general. The game uses GPS to determine your location and find things near you. However, even if the GPS is working, people experience “GPS drift” where they can’t even click on the Portal they’re trying to connect to because it says they’re too far away.
Until now, people simply restarting the game to solve the problem. You can also open Google Maps (or Apple Maps) and tap the compass or bullseye icon, which activates GPS and lets the map find your location. This can fix a lost or stuck GPS signal that has fixed itself inside the Ingress.
Otherwise, try following the image above and changing your location settings on Android. Go to the search magnifier or just tap and type. This is the easiest way. Use the highest mode, not battery saver or “medium”.
It could also be the map, even if it shows you’re too far away still try to click on Portal to cut it. Most of the time they still let you.
Legacy Game Data Not Syncing
Worse still, some users are reporting data loss when switching from the old Ingress to the new Ingress Prime. Basically, the old game data was not synced to the new one. Can you imagine logging in and going back to level 1? This happens to tons of people.
If so, we recommend waiting a few minutes while the game is open. For most, it fixes itself and takes only a few minutes (or 10) to sync with Niantic servers. Eventually, it will pull your information. if not, Contact Login SupportFor helping dozens of people on Twitter.
If you’re getting an “Account not found” message, it’s likely because you changed an old sign-in method to use your Gmail account. Niantic is aware of this, work on a fixand helping people recover accounts. Don’t worry, you will get it back. Also try going. Then log back in and see if everything is in sync.
Hate the New UI (try the old game style)
Do you love the sleek new Ingress Prime look, style and interface, or do you absolutely hate it? Emotions are running high on Reddit and Google+ and people aren’t sure what to think.
Still, we have good news. You can do Download and use the OLD browser and interface, instead of the new one. We’re not sure how long it will last, but Niantic has released the REDACTED Input Browser on the Play Store and it’s coming soon for iOS. Give this a try.
As we add the rest of the features in 2019, the old browser will eventually disappear, so use it whenever you can. Also, new players cannot use the old browser. Available only to those who log back in during browser version 1. But hey, at least there was a backup plan.
Agent Profile and Tasks Issues
We’re seeing complaints about the Agent Profile and missions that look funny. For some, opening the Agent Profile doesn’t work, and if it does, the tasks irregular and confused.
Try restarting the game quickly and then checking your missions again. This should resync everything and fix your tasks. You can even try exiting the game and logging back in to see if that fixes it. This is another issue that Niantic is aware of and is trying to fix.
Ingress Prime Not Installing
Ingress Prime has very specific requirements on which devices can play the game. According to Niantic, your phone needs at least 512MB of RAM and Android 4.0+. If your device does not meet these requirements, the game will not install.
But these requirements are taken from the original game from 2012. We think the new Ingress Prime will not work on any device that does not have at least 2-3GB of RAM and is running Android 6.0 or higher. Finally, we may see something similar on iOS where you need at least iOS 9+ to play.
Niantic has similar limits for Pokemon GO, and likely the same requirements for PoGo will limit who can play Ingress Prime. Unfortunately, the only way to get around this is to upgrade your phone. Here are some great cheap phones worth buying. Also, the game has trouble working with some Android tablets as most of them don’t have built-in GPS.
Also, if your Android device is rooted (or iOS Jailbroken) Can’t play Ingress Prime.
You Cannot Change Your Entry Agent Name (or Faction)
Unlike most games, Ingress does not allow you to randomly change your in-game name. Your agent name. Nor can you change your faction unless you have a good reason to do so. remember you can request a faction or codename change, and that’s at Niantic’s discretion. Requests also currently have a 7+ week cooldown.
This means you have a good reason to request a change, then wait at least 7 weeks for Niantic support to see your request, review it, and either accept or reject your request. Also, if you change factions you will have to start all over again and go back to level 1.
Missing AP Gained Through Glyph Hack
Unfortunately, some Agents may not see AP gained from a Glyph Hack on their COMM. Numerous complaints have surfaced about Reddit after the Ingress Prime update. The company is well aware of the issue and they are busy working on a fix.
Niantic claims that all AP gained based on attack speed have already been added to accounts and you will get what you deserve. It’s coming, even if you haven’t seen it yet. There is evidence of every hack or hijacking on the servers.
Other Issues and Fixes
According to official Niantic Ingress Prime support page, there are a few minor bugs that they are aware of. The company specifically mentioned recursion timer resets, compass, and player avatar issues. No compass in Ingress, “Unknown Agent” very rarely used shield issues, inventory management complaints, no warning about XM capacity, and browser freezes. That’s a pretty big list, and that’s not even all of the Ingress Prime Problems.
For now the game is actually completely new and you can expect a few updates in the next few weeks. Niantic is aware of how frustrating some of these are and will do its best to fix things. Updates in 2019 will also add some features missing in the new browser.
Sometimes the best thing you can do to fix problems in a game is to clean everything up. Either delete the game and reinstall it. We recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Then make sure you have a good internet connection or WiFi connection and log back in. Give the game time to sync all your account data, wait a few more minutes and then play. Don’t rush everything.
We’ll be keeping an eye on more tips, tricks, fixes, or other issues and will update this post as we learn more.
