It must be admitted that the launch of PlayStation Portal scared players more than it pleased them. When the first information about the device emerged, many people began dreaming of the return of a Sony-made portable console nostalgic for the PS Vita’s heyday. Needless to say there were a few disappointments upon arrival. Ultimately, PlayStation Portal turned out to be a “simple” remote play device for the PS5 that was difficult to use.

However, despite its somewhat alarming appearance and unimpressive spec sheet, the PlayStation Portal has what it takes to be a true portable console. So it was only a matter of time before hackers took notice and set out to make up for Sony’s missed opportunity. In the end, the first draw is Andy Nguyen. The X account (Twitter) proudly showcases the first PlayStation Portal running an emulator.

The emulator chosen for this exploit is PPSSPP, which, as the name suggests, allows you to run PSP games. In the photo shared by the hacker, GTA Liberty City running on PlayStation Portal can be seen. On the other hand, there is no supporting video showing the performance of the hack. However, it seems that the project is still in its early stages.

Andy Nguyen points out« no version [grand public] “It is not expected in the near future and there is still a lot of work to be done.” Therefore, it is very likely that the performance will not yet be satisfactory, as is the case at the beginning of the life of every emulator. Still, this small success is heartening, if only for those who lived through the heyday of the PSP and PS Vita.
