The complete Elden Ring Fia questline guide to the end of Age of Duskborn

The Elden Ring Fia questline is one of the biggest in the game and will see you complete a quest for the Deathbed Companion. This long-running quest will take you from most of the Elden Ring to Erdtree, eventually earning you one of the very special Elden Ring endings, specifically the Age of Duskborn ending.

As the name suggests, your mission for Fia – aka Deathbed Companion – focuses on death in every aspect, and the ending she unlocks revolves around bringing a new kind of death to the Lands Between.

Below is our complete Fia questline guide on locations, tips, and how to beat boss fights at key points.

The Elden Ring Fia questline for the end of the Twilight Age can be broken down into these different steps and locations:

1. Talk to Fia when you first reach Roundtable Hold
2. After reaching Altus Plateau, talk to him again and hug him
3. D, talk to Hunter of the Dead
4. Kill two Shardbearers and talk to Fia
5. Return to Roundtable Hold to enter the locked room
6. Access Deeproot Depths by any method
7. Kill Fia’s Champions
8. Deep Root Deep Embrace Fia
9. Receive the Curse of Death from Liurnia
10. Bring back to fia and reload space
11. Fight and kill the Lichdragon Fortissax in a boss fight
12. Obtain the Prince of Death’s Restorative Rune
13. (Optional extra) Give D’s brother the Twin Armor

There’s obviously a lot going on with this, so if you’re confused, you can scroll down or click on any of these spots for more information on how it was accomplished. You can also check out the maps we’ve added, but the truth is that the majority of this quest takes place in a single arena (steps 7-12) at the Roundtable Hold (steps 1-5) or Deep Root Depths. .

There are actually very simple steps for this task – but then you get to step 6 and things get complicated very quickly. Don’t worry though – we’ll take you through every step of the quest to make sure you’re never lost or confused along the way.

1. After reaching Roundtable Hold, talk to Fia

This is the easiest – when you first reach Roundtable Hold, go to the bedroom next to Smithing Master Hewg and talk to Fia, the Deathbed Companion sitting on the bed. You don’t even need to hug him and weigh the pros and cons of the Elden Ring hug debuff, just have some dialogue so he knows you exist. After that, you can forget about it for a while…

2. Embrace Fia after reaching Altus Plateau for the Weathered Dagger

After resting at any Grace Site on the Altus Plateau (usually accessed after learning how to use Dectus’s Grand Lift in the Elden Ring) or completing certain events, such as Rogier’s death from his illness (which is still unclear which triggered it), Fia’ either go back and hug him for sure this time. As you do, it will have some new dialogs and present you with a special key item called Worn Dagger. He wants you to take him back to his rightful owner – an absolutely huge and challenging task!

3. Give the Worn Dagger to Hunter of the Dead D

Or not, depending on the situation. Go to the main room and talk to Hunter of the Dead D and give him the dagger. He’ll get a little more delicious text, but the whole point is that he knows who the dagger belongs to and delivers it to them. There’s no use holding it – the dagger is an essential item, not a usable weapon.

4. Kill two Shardbearer demigod bosses and talk to Fia

The next part is pretty obvious – after you kill the two “Shardbearer” bosses you need to go back and talk to Fia. Shardbearers are any boss with a Great Rune – Godrick, Rennala, Radahn, Morgott, to name a few. Once you’ve done that, talk to Fia and she’ll present you with a map of something called the Black Blade Trail. You don’t have to follow it though – it’s part of Rogier’s questline, not Fia’s, but it seems to unlock the next vital phase.

5. Find Fia in the locked room in Roundtable Hold

Refill the space and come back and you should see Fia gone – specifically, she’s in the locked room leaving Hewg at the end of the hallway. The doors are now open and Fia is over someone’s body – maybe a parlor murder mystery? No, it’s pretty obvious who is responsible and nobody cares. Loot the hull for the Twinned armor set, talk to Fia, and the next time you repopulate the area, Fia is gone – as it turns out, she’s a pretty long way away.

6. Make your way to the Deep Root Depths

This is the first really hard part – Deeproot Depths is an entire underground city under Erdtree, and players need to get there to reunite with Fia. There are two ways to do this – either kill the Valiant Gargoyle double boss fight at the Northeast Siofra Aqueduct and rest in a coffin to be carried in their arena, or head to the Underground Shunning-Grounds below Leyndell until you find the next secret path. to Forsaken Grace Cathedral, which takes you further down the Erdtree roots.

Once you get there, the specific place you want to reach is the large arena on the up-northeast side of town. In the main city area, east of the Nameless City of Eternal Blessing, drive or walk on the giant roots that run up the hill (we have shown the route on the map). Beyond Fia’s arena there will be a void in the abyss.

7. Kill Fia’s Champions

After entering the arena, head to the opposite side and you’ll have a boss fight that starts with the Champions of Fia, five NPC invaders attacking in waves. You fight first one, then the other, then the last three at once. Individually they aren’t terribly tough, but the final step is tough when you risk being hit from all sides by multiple attackers that you can’t all defend against. Summoning will definitely help here, but you should also invest in a shield for easy defense, while mages keep their distance and use AOE attacks. Meanwhile, faster melee fighters should go for these precious, valuable backstabs.

8. Hug Fia on the Death Prince Throne

When Fia’s Champions die, a Grace Zone called the Death Prince’s Throne will appear nearby, where resting will cause Fia to appear nearby. He’s telling you to kill him – don’t! Instead, hug him with the “No, I want to be held” option and he will present the next phase of the quest – find the Curse of Death she. This actually intersects with someone else’s mission…

9. Find Death’s Cursed Mark in the Divine Limgrave Tower

After this point you actually have to advance the Elden Ring Ranni questline and the secret ending, because the Cursemark of Death is only located in the Divine Tower of Liurnia and Ranni is the only person with the private key that allows you to enter the Tower. Karya Study Hall! Advance to step 5 to get Ranni’s quest.

10. Return the Curse Mark to Fia and reload the domain

Once you have the Cursemark, take it back to Fia, which is now permanently mounted in Deeproot Depths. Give it to her and receive Luminous Baldachin’s Blessing – then refill the space and Fia will fall asleep. Prepare yourself for a big fight, then interact with it to get into the Deathbed Dream.

11. Defeat the Lichdragon Fortissax boss fight

Doing so will teleport to a boss fight with the Lichdragon Fortissax, a large undead dragon. Fortissax is closer in combat style to Placidusax and Farum Azula’s dragons than the more common types, so unfortunately knowing how to defeat Agheel the Flying Dragon in Elden Ring won’t teach you much for this fight. Here are some nifty pointers though:

• You want to be around level 80 before capturing Fortissax with +16 or higher weapons.
• Fortissax is very resistant to Lightning and Divine damage, but somewhat weak to Piercing.
• Attacks on Fortissax’s head deal double damage, so hit if you can, although not mandatory.
• Most Fortissax’s attacks are a mix of Physical, Lightning, and Fire damage, so armor against them.
• Fortissax uses multiple AOE attacks that hit her surroundings but don’t reach far. Mages must keep their distance, while melee fighters must remain agile and abandon their shields to dodge their attacks.

12. Retrieve the Prince of Death’s Restorative Rune from Fia’s body

When you kill Fortissax, he will reappear next to Fia and you will discover that she died while you were gone. However, there is one item you can pick up on – the Prince of Death’s Restorative Rune, an artificial Rune created by Fia that will repair the Elden Ring, but infuse it with some ideas about death. there is before. This is the item you need for the finish – we’ll talk about that a little further below.

13. (Optional extra) Give Twin Armor to D’s Brother

Just outside the Valiant Gargoyles arena, there is a mopey NPC; D’s unnamed brother. Give him the Twinned armor set you removed from his body in stage 5. Then go back to Fia’s corpse and the brother will be there, some monologue. If you refill the area, it will be gone, leaving the armor and a new weapon – the Inseparable Sword – for you to retake. Doing this earlier risks ending the Fia quest abruptly, but if you do it later, you lose nothing and gain this unique Greatsword in the process.

Now that you have completed Fia’s quest, you have the main item you need – the Prince of Death’s Restorative Rune. This doesn’t necessarily lock you into the finale of Fia, it just gives you a potential choice when the ending pick comes in. So theoretically, you could complete Fia’s questline, get her Reparative Rune, then do nothing with it and get a completely different ending. Fia’s questline comes with countless rewards along the way, some small, some big, some random. We’ve listed all the notable ones below and why they’re so good – and that doesn’t even include the rewards players can receive in the process of taking these steps; Path to deeproot.

• Twinned Amor set (obtained from the body in step 5): A decent medium weight armor that can be obtained fairly early and works well against most attacks with a very…unique aesthetic.
• Fia’s Mist (reward for killing Fia’s Champions in step 7): A special spell that creates a fog in front of the mage and inflicts Death Blight on anyone who passes through it.
• Blessing of Radiant Baldachin (obtained from Fia in step 10): A unique non-recoverable consumable, this Blessing costs FP to use, but significantly increases the player’s balance for a short time. It also doesn’t weaken health like the standard Baldachin’s Blessing.
• Remembrance of the Lichdragon (obtained by killing Lichdragon Fortissax in step 11): Like all Memories, this one can be awarded to Enia in exchange for one of two rewards. In this case, they choose between two Spells – Fortissax’s Lightning Spear or Death’s Lightning. Both are good, but Lightning Spear is considered particularly powerful.
• Inseparable Sword (obtained from D’s brother in step 13): Assuming players take the optional final step, they will also receive the Inseparable Sword, a powerful Great Sword that deals extra Divine damage with each hit and scales well to Faith.
