How to Sync Internet Explorer Tabs in Windows 8.1

Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 is designed to be used on desktops, tablets, 2-in-1s, and anything in between. The company says it plans to keep its software and services available wherever and whenever a potential user might be. Many of the features that enable this vision also allow Windows 8.1 users to effortlessly switch between multiple devices, especially tab syncing in Internet Explorer.

Here’s how to sync tabs in Windows 8.1 using Internet Explorer and access what you’re browsing from any other computer running Windows 8.1.

Setting Up Tab Sync

Setting up tab syncing is incredibly easy, thanks to Microsoft’s decision to integrate SkyDrive directly into Windows 8.1. In fact, as long as you’re signed in with a Microsoft Account that lets you download apps and games from the Windows Store, you should be ready for anything.

Now look just below your username and to the left of your account picture. If you have a Hotmail, Live, or Outlook email address listed here, you’re signed in with your Microsoft Account. If not, you’ll need to create and sign in to a Microsoft Account for tab sync to work.

Using Tab Sync

Using tab sync in Windows 8.1 is also incredibly easy. You only need to sign in to another Windows 8.1 equipped laptop, tablet or convertible with the same Microsoft Account.

Go to by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard or the Windows button at the bottom of your tablet or convertible’s screen.

Click on the down side of your screen. If you’re using a touch device, simply place your finger anywhere on the Start Screen and drag upwards.

From the list of installed apps, tap or click .

Inside Internet Explorer, tap or click at the bottom of your screen.

Tap or click on the left side of your screen. Select the other Windows 8.1 device you use to surf the web.

Click or tap the tab you want to open from that device.
