with the manager Plum on the Witch still not convinced David DeGea is ideal for the system, Manchester United He is allegedly considering offering him a new contract at lower wages. Since 2011, De Gea has been United’s first choice goalkeeper and has been on his way to reaching the club’s top 10 shirt holders of all time.
The Spanish goalkeeper’s contract expires this summer and it’s unclear whether United will renew his contract as manager Hag is still not happy that the goalkeeper is in line with his system. The 31-year-old will have to accept a substantial cut from his current £375,000 weekly salary to stay at Old Trafford, according to The Athletic.
De Gea had previously indicated that he would be willing to accept a pay cut to stay at United for the foreseeable future. According to the same reports, the team is reportedly investigating goalkeepers like Porto’s Diogo Costa and Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon as they look for a new goalkeeper in the future. That’s odd, considering De Gea has played in every one of United’s 15 games since Hag took over this summer.
However, when asked about De Gea’s contract expiring earlier, the Dutchman said: “We haven’t made a decision about him but I can say that I’m really happy with David de Gea as a goalkeeper. The first two performances of the season were not his best but as you can see he has given us a lot for the defense department, he provides stability and as a person I love him – with him. “I can cooperate really well. But first we’re going to winter, then we’ll talk about how we’re going to deal with it.”

Why might Manchester United want to get rid of their 3-time best player, David De Gea?
Former Ajax manager ten Hag’s plan requires a goalkeeper who can play from behind and support his defense with his feet. With United’s disastrous 4-0 defeat by Brentford earlier this season, De Gea has so far failed to show that he fits that style of play.
The seasoned goalie seems to have changed his style of play since the start of the season as United’s chances have increased, but sometimes he still prefers to pump the ball long rather than sending it short to his defenders. As a result, United scouts have allegedly been keeping an eye on Simon and Costa as potential long-term substitutes for the Spaniard.
