Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Iron Hands Raid Build is all about using Belly Drum and Drain Punch together to increase attack and stay at max health. The Iron Hands Pokemon has become the basis for winning Raid Battles, but setting up the right build is difficult, especially if you’re going deeper than just basic attacks. Below we’ll show you how to get Iron Hands Pokemon and the best Raid build for it in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and also whether it’s possible to get a Belly Drum TM.
The best Iron Hands Raid Build in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet depends on having an Iron Hands with the following moves:
- Belly Drum (Learned at level 84): Halves the user’s HP and maximizes their attack stat
- Drain Punch (must be learned from a TM): Combat type attack move that restores half the health of the damage dealt
The other two moves can be whatever you want, and the best option depends on what you’re facing. Here are some good options that Iron Hands can naturally learn from:
- Close fight (for pure damage output)
- lightning fist (in case enemies are resistant to Martial attacks)
- Electric Land (To strengthen Thunder Punch and make you immune to sleep effects)
Beyond that, here are some tips for making sure your Iron Hands are as effective as possible. The goal is to deal maximum damage in Drain Punch, injure the enemy and restore health, and make sure you can’t be ejected after using the Belly Drum but before landing the Drain Punch.
- Buy the Stapling Glove from Zapapico and give it to Iron Hands
- Use Montenevera Hyper-Training to increase all of Iron Hands’ stats except Sp.Atk and Speed
- Use Vitamins and feathers to increase attack and all defensive EV stats
- Use Adamant Mint to make sure Iron Hands have Adamant nature (increases attack, lowers sp.atk)
- Train Iron Hands to level 100
- Change the Tera type of Iron Hands to Fighting (as outlined in our Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera types and Terastallizing guide)
At this point, you should have a powerful Pokemon ready for anything but the toughest tera raid battles!
After installing Iron Hands with the Raid Build above, here’s what you need to do when entering most Raid Battles:
- Use the Belly Drum move now to halve your HP and maximize your attack
- Use Drain Punch to do great deeds and restore lost health
- After this point, continue using Drain Punch or another attack until the Raid nullifies all stat changes for your team of Pokemon.
- In such a case, make sure you are at or close to full health and then repeat this process.
- If at any point your health is full and the Belly Drum attack bonus is active, use Close Combat for even more damage.
If you have allies, the best they can do is use Cheers to keep your Iron Hands’ defense stats high and restore health, because your damage output – especially when you have a type advantage – is ridiculous and easily compensates for your allies. they’re burning their desks to support you. As noted in our Pokemon Scarlet and Violet type table, you do mainly Fighting-type damage with this build, so you’ll be particularly dangerous against Dark, Steel, Normal, Rock and Ice Pokemon – so you better watch out for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Kingambit

(Some plot spoilers to follow)
To obtain the Iron Hands Pokemon, players will likely need to play Pokemon Violet, since Iron Hands cannot be obtained in Pokemon Scarlet through a trade. If you’re playing Violet, you’ll need to complete all three plots – Titans, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet gym leaders, and Team Star – until you reach Area Zero in the Great Crater of Paldea as part of the story.
In this area, you’ll find wild Iron Hands to catch – as many as you want – and start the process of training them as the aforementioned Belly Drum boxers.
Since Belly Drum is the cornerstone of this raid build, many are wondering if it’s possible to get a TM of Belly Drum to teach any Pokemon. Unfortunately, that’s not the case at the time of this writing – there is no Belly Drum TM in the game with no way to build or find it.
That’s why Iron Hands is so important – it’s one of the few Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet that can actually learn Belly Drum organically through leveling up.
