Knowing how to drain the water in Sonic Frontiers will help you progress, because after a lot of relatively simple running, fishing and zooming in on the grinding tracks, you’re suddenly asked to ‘drain the water’ from the oasis on Ares Island. pulling out a giant plug suspended above the water. But how will you do it? Don’t worry, we got you.
Drain the water at Sonic Frontiers in the Isle of Ares oasis
The easiest part is to start this mission by following the on-screen mission marker (the white square with a meter number that decreases as you get closer) until you reach this big ball.
You know you have to shoot at the big black structure towering over the lake, but how? You have to install it first, not Sonic (though that would be great). Look to the right of the lake from where you’re standing and you should see a smaller structure with a large bullet on it. Yep, it’s starting to make sense now. Run to this.
Once you’re there, it doesn’t seem to do anything. Ah, but it will if you do a cyloop. This involves holding down the Triangle (PlayStation) / Y (Xbox) / X (Switch) button and moving Sonic in a circle around the bullet on the pedestal. You don’t really need to enlarge it or even make the circle perfectly circular. Join Sonic’s trail by going back your own way. The circle should flash pink like this when you get it right.
Now release the cyloop button and the projectile should soar and move above Sonic. Now a countdown timer starts and you can’t dash anymore, so go back to the weapon without wasting any time (the white square mission marker is still there so you don’t miss it), it should indicate that the bullet is loaded into it where there is a cutscene.
Finally, before the clock runs out (you have a few seconds to aim), you need to move the crosshair up and slightly diagonally, until the center of the crosshair aligns with the eye icon on the large plug assembly in the air. When it is, press the fire button when prompted.
Request! The water flows and lets you head towards the path that opens, and Sonic begins to wonder if emptying the only oasis in the desert is really a good thing. But as Knuckles pointed out, in Sonic Frontiers you were able to drain the water and reveal the way forward, so…who cares? Hurray!
If you disrupt this process for any reason, don’t panic – go back to where you found the bullet. It will reboot and allow you to try again as many times as you need.
