How much storage does the PS5 have?

How much storage does the PS5 have and how big is the PS5 hard drive when it comes to pure memory? The PS5 uses an SSD drive for better and for worse – it’s a faster, more powerful drive than a standard HDD, but more expensive for the same amount of space. And while it technically has a respectable 825GB of storage, game files are growing and some of that space needs to be taken up by the operating system – so it may be less than you think. Either way, the 825GB number being launched means there’s no full picture of the PS5 storage available. Here’s everything you need to know about how much storage the PS5 has.

How much storage does the PS5 have?

Although the PS5 storage is reported to have an 825GB SSD drive, that doesn’t directly mean usable space. To begin with, due to a quirk in how hard disk space is measured, since 825GB size corresponds to 825,000,000,000 bytes, and 1KB is actually 1,024 bytes, this means there was only 768GB of storage initially. Allocate some more room to cover the base OS and back 667.2 GB of available PS5 storageto cover your games and apps, your media gallery, saved data and other system data for your games and apps.

That said, while that might not sound like much if you’ve come out of the back of a 1TB PS4, let’s round up a few games showcasing the PlayStation 5 and see how many games you can fit on a PS5 hard drive. note that this may not consider future update sizes):

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – 41.79GB
  • Astro’s Playroom – 10.34GB
  • Borderlands 3 – 49.64GB
  • Bugsnax – 8.19GB
  • Call of Duty Vanguard – 61.01GB
  • Demon’s Souls – 52.09GB
  • Warzone 94.67GB
  • Fortnite – 42.66GB
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – 52.56GB
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure – 30.44GB
  • Watch Dogs Legion – 35.73GB
  • Far Cry 6 – 90GB

TOTAL: 569.12

You can see how much PS5 storage you have by going to Settings > Storage > Console Storage and select Games & Apps to see how much space individual games take up. If you need to free up more storage space, your Media Gallery is a good place to start, especially since the PS5 is initially set to record a video every time you win an award, you can turn this feature off by going to Settings > Captures. and Broadcasts > Trophies > Record Trophy Videos.
