The new five-star Genshin Impact Yelan character is a mysterious Hydro marksman, looks cool, has great attack animations and scales with % HP. Yes, that’s right: now is your chance to use all those HP-based Artifacts!
In this Genshin Impact Yelan build guide, we’ll explain his abilities, Constellation levels, best team comps, and of course… the best Sub DPS and Support setups, including Yelan build. Aqua Simulacra spring. Here’s how to get the most out of Yelan Genshin Impact 2.7
Yelan Weapon, Element and stats in Genshin Impact
As mentioned, Yelan uses a Bow and has Hydro (water) Vision. There are 244 base Attacks at the maximum level, which is on the lower side for a five-star character. However, nearly all of his attacks scale to his HP, which is one of the highest in the game: 14,450 at max level.
Yelan’s Ascension stat is Critical Rate with a bonus of up to 19.2%. This will make it easier to focus your build on Critical Damage.
Note that Yelan currently has the lowest base Defense of all Genshin Impact characters, with just 548 at max level. That shouldn’t be a problem though, as he doesn’t need a lot of active time in combat.
Yelan’s Elemental Skill and Elemental Explosion
Yelan’s Basic Attacks aren’t her strong point, but she has a strong Charged Attack, Elemental Skill, and Explosion.
- Normal/Charged Attack: Try to trigger the special Charged Attack called Breakthrough Barb. Yelan automatically enters Breakthrough state after spending at least five seconds out of combat. The next Charged Aimed Shot takes much less time to load and deals additional Hydro damage based on his maximum HP.
- Permanent Lifeline: quick movement skill with a ten-second cooldown. Tap or hold the Skill button longer to dash forward (note that the damage scale stays the same). When the time expires, each enemy hit will explode, dealing Hydro damage based on Yelan’s maximum HP. Yelan has a 34% chance to reset her Breakthrough status for each enemy hit by the explosion.
- Depth-Clarion Dice: A Hydro domain attack that also summons an Exquisite Throw. It will follow the active character for 15 seconds and deal damage when a Basic Attack hits an enemy or the Lifeline explodes. This skill has a cooldown of 18 seconds and an Energy Cost of 70.
Yelan passive skills
In addition to her Attacks, Yelan has the following passive abilities:
- Required Calculation: Yelan receives 25% more rewards from Expeditions on Liyue.
- Rotation Control: Yelan’s maximum HP is increased by 6/12/18/30% based on the number of different Elements in the party.
- Adapt with Ease: active character deals 3.5% extra damage per second, up to a maximum of 50%, while Burst’s Exquisite Throw is active.
Best Yelan Sub DPS build
- Best weapon: water simulation
- Best Works: Split Fate Emblem.
Yelan has the perfect cards for a great Sub DPS. In this role, you’ll switch it up, use Burst and shoot enemies with Elemental Skill, then switch to main DPS while Exquisite Throw remains active.
A few things are important: Yelan needs a high enough Energy Charge (if you want this Blast to continue) and a good Critical Rate/Critical Damage balance. There’s no such thing as a lot of Energy for Yelan unless you’re using Raiden Shogun on the team, so her Emblem of Severed destiny (+20% Energy Recharge) is a good deal. The four-piece set can then use excess Energy to increase Blast damage.
Yelan’s best weapon is somewhat effortless: the five-star Aqua Simulacra offers the highest Critical Damage boost (+88.2%) and also increases HP.
Best Yelan Support structure
- Best weapon: Elegy for the last
- Best Works: Nobles must behave
This Yelan build is focused entirely on increasing the damage bonus for active characters rather than maximizing its damage. Elegy for the End increases Energy Recharge and allows Yelan to further increase team damage by hitting opponents with her Dexterity and Explosion abilities. The Elemental Mastery bonus goes up to 200 and the Attack bonus is 40% max.
The Noblesse Oblige is a great choice for the Artifact set, as the Yelan Support structure focuses on sustaining Burst hits. After triggering Yelan’s Detonation, it increases Burst damage by 20% and increases the party member’s Attack by 20%.
Best Yelan F2P/new player build
- best weapon: Favonius Warbow (four-star) or Slingshot (three-star)
- Best Works: Millelith’s Perseverance and Heart of Depth
Short on five-star bows? Don’t worry, you can have a great Yelan build with three and four star weapons instead. While four-star weapons like the Stringless and Sacrificial Bow are fine, the Favonius Warbow is arguably the best free-to-play option. It has a very high Energy Charge and the ability to generate more Energy for the entire team.
If you don’t have a four-star stream, try Slingshot. It offers extra Critical Rate that allows you to select Artifacts with different stats.
As for Artifacts, you can replace Inazuma’s Emblem of Severed Fate set with one that is easier to collect. The two-part Tenacity of the Millelith (+20% SP) and Heart of Depth (+15% Hydro damage) can be found on Liyue and Dragonspine, respectively.
Best team structure for Yelan in Genshin Impact 2.7
Let’s start with the team-based bonus: If Yelan is on a team with four different Elements, she will receive a 30% max HP increase. While this is clearly the best team pick for him, only try to get the full bonus if your current roster allows it (best not to use weaker characters just to get the bonus).
Yelan can easily apply Hydro to her enemies, making her great for powerful Elemental Reactions like Evaporation, Electro-Charged or Frozen. It’s best to team him up with a Basic Attack DPS that can trigger Exquisite Throw attacks from Burst.
Based on this, Hu Tao is one of Yelan’s best allies. If you don’t have it, consider using another Pyro Elemental DPS like Yoimiya or Klee. If you’re new to Genshin Impact, ignore the Vaporize suit for now and go for a great Ice Cream combo with Kaeya.
As for the remaining Support or Sub DPS roles, consider using an Anemo character like Sucrose for Vortex Responses and a Geo like Zhongli or Noelle for protection. A Burst-battery Boost like the Raiden Shogun is also a good option. The remaining points can go to a passive DPS like Fischl.
Need Yelan’s Constellation upgrades?
Constellations cost Wishes, Wishes cost Primogems, and Primogems cost… Well, it’s either a lot of time or a lot of money. So, is it worth spending them on Yelan’s Constellations?
If you don’t have many five-star characters yet, the answer is probably no. The first Constellation level seems worth the effort at first glance, but you can also get an additional charge of Skill from the four-star Sacrificial Sagittarius. The second and sixth Constellation levels are useful if you want to increase Yelan’s DPS role, but it’s probably less costly to spend your Wishes on his signature weapon, Aqua Simulacra, instead.
Here is an overview of Yelan’s Constellations:
- Enter plotters: The Elemental Skill, Lingering Lifeline, gains an additional charge.
- Receiving All Incoming: Exquisite Throw’s coordinated attack fires an additional water arrow that deals 14% of Yelan’s Max HP as Hydro damage.
- Beware of Trickster Dice: Increases Elemental Burst level by three.
- Bait and Switch: When detonated for each enemy marked with Lifeline, it increases the maximum HP of all allies by 10% for 25 seconds. Maximum HP increase is 40%.
- Vendor Speed: Increases Elemental Skill level by three.
- The winner takes everything: After using Elemental Blast, Yelan enters the Mastermind state, which transforms all of Yelan’s Basic Attacks into special Breakthrough Barbs. They are similar to normal ones, but damage dealt will be treated as Charged Attack damage. Special Breakthrough Barbs deal 156% of normal damage. The Mastermind state lasts for 20 seconds and is cleared after five arrows have been fired.
And that’s it for the best Yelan builds! If we’ve inspired you to try the Yelan Wish sweepstakes… Good luck!
