FIFA 23 will be the last game in the series created by EA. This isn’t as shocking as it sounds – rumors of a split between the mega-broadcaster and football’s governing body have been going on for months. In May, EA confirmed the split. From 2023, its game will be known as EA Sports FC, while FIFA 24 will be made by a different developer. What else do we know about this latest entry under EA’s management? When will we see the first FIFA 23 trailer?
With no E3 this year, it’s natural to wonder if EA will delay the release of the first FIFA 23 trailer. In fact, this major cancellation shouldn’t matter. EA often appears at major Sony and Microsoft shows, but prefers to do its own thing in video screenings. Hence the annual EA Play Live event. This problem has also disappeared as EA plans to pay attention to each game individually over the summer. As such, we expect FIFA footage to pop up in its usual slot. What is the FIFA 23 release date?
It’s pretty simple. Although no official release date has been announced yet, EA always leaves FIFA in a very specific time frame. FIFA 20 was released on September 24, 2019. FIFA 21 was released on October 9, 2020. And FIFA 22 came out on October 1, 2021. All these dates are on Fridays, and the main reason FIFA 21 came out a little later than the other two is the worldwide pandemic, which has understandably affected development.
Therefore, we can predict with certainty that the FIFA 23 release date will be Friday, September 23, 2022, or Friday, September 30, 2022.
Who will be on the cover of FIFA 23?
While the FIFA 23 box may not be as revered as the Madden 23 cover, it’s still a big deal for any professional football player. Especially now that the two equestrian race between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is over. Eden Hazard and Virgil van Dijk shared their FIFA 20 cover star honors, while both FIFA 21 and FIFA 22 had PSG and French great Kylian Mbappe ahead.
As such, Mbappe should be considered the cover star favorite of FIFA 23, and he may even have a secret contract to feature the game for a certain period of time. If that doesn’t happen, expect Erling Haaland to earn a strong review. The 21-year-old has agreed to join Manchester City from Dortmund in the summer, and no other 2022 transfer will feature so much pre-season. His age and ability make him an excellent candidate for EA.
Independent website FIFgame also held a FIFA 23 cover vote. The winner was not Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe or Haaland, but Haaland’s new teammate Riyah Mahrez. This seems unlikely, but the Algerian captain garnered 10,000 votes.
Which FIFA 23 licenses are already guaranteed?
While its gameplay has been a bit sluggish, eFootball 2022 publisher Konami has made its way across EA and FIFA recently. The names of the four Italian clubs will be changed again in FIFA 23. Juventus will now transform into Piemonte Calcio, AS Roma Roma FC, Atalanta Bergamo Calcio and Lazio Latium.
Last year, Konami also announced an exclusive deal with Napoli. This means that Diego Maradona’s former team will also be listed under a different name in FIFA 23.
Keep in mind that player licenses are not tied to club licenses, so players like Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens should continue to maintain their true face in the game.
Specific license details are not available at this point. However, the publisher has revealed its plans for the sequel to EA Sports FC, and FIFA 23 will certainly not lag behind them. That means we will definitely get 19,000 players, 700 teams, 100 stadiums and over 30 leagues.
How will EA deal with FIFA 23 Russian teams and players?
It is too early to tell and it is likely to be affected by Russia-Ukraine relations in the summer. CSKA Moscow, Lokomotiv Moscow and Spartak Moscow in March Removed from FIFA 22. As for the community, the incarnation of career mode is a higher priority than the newly released Ultimate Team cards. If you have English lower leagues it would be fair to include the Scots. What will happen to the series after FIFA 23?
FIFA International Soccer debuted on Mega Drive in December 1993 and has grown to become the largest sports simulation on the planet. However, this is the last entry developed by EA.
From 2023, EA’s football games will continue under the name EA Sports FC. I wrote about what that could mean elsewhere on GamesRadar. More creativity would be a huge plus – perhaps a throwback to the days of FIFA 11’s Creation Center. We even have the chance to switch between virtual matches and real-life matches.
However, FIFA as a video game name is not going anywhere. Sport’s governing body boldly insists that its upcoming games will be better than anything EA has to offer.
“I can assure you that the only authentic, real game with the Fifa name will be the best game available for players and football fans.” President Gianni Infantino says. “The name FIFA is the only global, original title. FIFA 23, FIFA 24, FIFA 25 and FIFA 26 and so on – the fixed name is FIFA and it will stay forever as the BEST.”
The company also plans to release non-sim games under the FIFA banner, with the first one ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.
