FIFA 22 tips are essential even if you’re just getting into this year’s big footy simulation. (Any PS Plus downloader by chance? Welcome.) Everyone knows about Ultimate Team, but FIFA 22 offers a lot more to immerse your passions in. Below we offer handy tips for this massive card collecting monster, along with other treats like the career mode option for building your own club. These are the seven essential FIFA 22 tips you should know before playing.
1. You can skip the ‘Welcome to FIFA’ story
spoilers! FIFA 22 starts off with something odd: a standalone story where the player you created crosses paths with David Beckham and Eric Cantona, participates in a brawl in the streets of Paris, and plays with Kylian Mbappe and Thierry Henry at the Parc Des Princes. . It’s weird but harmless, but most people will want to jump into FUT or career mode to get started.
Unfortunately, pause in one of those cutscenes and the story seems unskippable: you’re just not given the choice. But you can still skip it. Kicking in the streets and on the PSG pitch can be paused like any regular FIFA 22 drill, at which point the usual options are presented, including exiting to the main menu.
2. Creating a club is great
Career mode now offers the option to create your own club and replace an existing team to add it to any league in the game. This is great! You choose your name, opponent, crest and home and away kits. With 80 designs to choose from by authentic manufacturers like Nike, Adidas, Umbro, Puma, Hummel, and New Balance, the last one on its own is an excellent time consuming. Beautiful.
The most important part that needs to be done right during the initial setup is the ‘Your Team’ tab. Try the top two ‘overall rating’ and ‘team age’ sliders until you’re happy with the ranking of regen players on the right, and note that you can tap the right bar to see a list of player ages. I went with ‘One Star/So Young’ for a tough League Two challenge for my side (Bath City), but if you’re downgrading Carshalton Athletic to the Premier League you need at least Four Star and Balanced from the start.
3. Potential is everything
Do you want to be on the established side instead of starting your own club? Long-term career mode success, then, is about building the future. We’ll have a more detailed guide soon, but for now these are the ten players with the highest potential in career mode. The first score is their current score, and the second is their overall potential score.
1. Kylian Mbappe (PSG) – 91 > 95
2. Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) – 89 > 93
3. Erling Haaland (Dortmund) – 88 > 93
4. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) – 87 > 92
5. Phil Foden (Manchester City) – 84 > 92
6. Kai Havertz (Chelsea) – 84 > 92
7. Jadon Sancho (Manchester United) – 87 > 91
8. Matthijs de Ligt (Piemonte Calcio) – 85 > 91
9. Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid) – 83 > 91
10. Pedri (Barcelona) – 81 > 91
4. BPM is dead… long live BPM
The Bronze Pack Method, aka ‘BPM’, was thwarted by EA’s controversial decision to remove the standard 400 coin bronze packs from Ultimate Team. Instead, you can only buy premium packages for 750 coins. It’s naughty and makes it difficult to work in the market, but it can still be effective – you just need patience.
After purchasing a pack, check ‘Compare Prices’ for each player. Anything currently sold for an ‘out’ price (200 coins) must be kept in your club for now. However, those worth over 200 can be released directly at a price comparable to other identical cards. [By cycling through your stashed players weekly, you can cherry pick the right time to list those, too.] Aim to earn 1000 coins in sales per pack and big profits are guaranteed in the end.
5. Discard your 75-81 point gold cards
Gold rated 75-81 can be instantly transferred to the transfer market, while silver and bronze cards are held at discard price until needed for Squad Building Challenges (SBCs). They won’t bring in mega money – but you’ll get so many gold cards through Squad Battles and Division Rivals rewards during this season that there’s no point in keeping them.
Apply a different rule to items rated 82 or higher. These will go to premium amounts intermittently due to Token SBCs – so you’d better keep them for now to get maximum coins for later.
6. Good way to go all La Liga
One final Ultimate Team tip concerns your team structure. Chemistry is essential and the easiest way to maximize it is to create a starting roster of players from a single division. For this is to go with a seductive Premier League roster – but millions of other players are doing the same, increasing the value of cards assigned to this competition (ENG 1).
Instead, I recommend building competitive rosters around other major leagues for well below the entire cost of EPL. My La Liga XI wins online and indoor games, but is under 150,000 coins to assemble. It is listed below. Check it out for yourself, then consider starting your own league for that league or Bundesliga (which is especially great for bargain defenders).
GK: Jan Oblak (91) – 40,000 coins
RB: Jesus Navas (84) – 5,900
CB: Clement Lenglet (82) – packaged
CB: Gerard Pique (84) – 7,800
LB: Gaya (83) – packed
R: Gareth Bale (82) – 2,000
MO: Casemiro (89) – 27,750
SP: Toni Kroos (88) – 22,000
LM: Eden Hazard (85) – 10,000
ST: Alexander Isak (82) – packed
ST: Luis Suarez (88) – 23,000
7. Remote subtle shots are meta
Improved goalkeepers are a very welcome aspect of FIFA 22. You see fewer rebound goals, they are masters in one-on-one situations and are generally more realistic, demanding crosses and knocking the balls backside or wide. This means that old goal scoring exploits have been largely nerfed, but that hasn’t stopped the community from looking for new ones.
While the success rate has been reduced by patches, the most effective method of shooting FIFA 22 is finesse, which is to hit a curler from outside the penalty area with a side-foot around the goalkeeper and towards the top corner. To try this, run the ball on the side of D until a clear line is at the goal, then hold down the shoot button with R1 (on PlayStation) or RB (on Xbox). Practice makes perfect, of course. Happy net hunting.
