Some large companies, for example, Nintendo, have already launched their portable PCs/consoles. In view of this, the question arises: wouldn’t Microsoft also adapt to this new development?
Apparently, the Xbox ecosystem is preparing for a revolution with Microsoft’s strategy of expanding its presence beyond traditional borders.
In a bold move, the technology giant plans to launch a portable Xbox console, with the main objective of attracting new players and further captivating its worldwide community of gamers.
After the news that some exclusive Xbox games would be coming to other consoles, such as the PlayStation 5 and even the Nintendo Switch, rumors about Microsoft’s next move began to circulate intensely.

While the idea of a portable console isn’t exactly new to the Redmond team, the company has run into regulatory hurdles that have delayed previous plans for a portable Xbox aimed at cloud gaming.
However, it appears that the Microsoft is determined to carry out this ambitious project. Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division, showed public interest in rumors circulating on social media about a possible portable console from the brand.
A tweet from well-known journalist Tom Warren of The Verge, which featured an Asus ROG Ally with Xbox experience, generated quite a bit of discussion online. Spencer even showed support for the tweet, signaling the company’s potential interest in the segment.
In a recent interview with The Verge, Spencer commented on the concept of expanding to different types of devices, without directly confirming plans for a portable console.
He stated that he sees great opportunities in different devices. This way, it will keep everyone updated on possible releases.
Despite the excitement surrounding the possibility of a portable Xbox, Spencer acknowledged that there are challenges to overcome, especially regarding software.
The CEO highlighted that the experience on devices like the ROG Ally or Lenovo Legion Go is compromised by Windows, and that the Microsoft team works to ensure a more fluid integration.
Rumors suggest that the official announcement of the portable Xbox console could happen as soon as 2026, with speculation that it would replace the ‘Xbox Series S’ and offer performance comparable to the direct successor of the Xbox Series X when connected to a ‘dock’.
