Those born in the 2000s have already embarked on a new technological world, but those born in 2010 and onwards can consider themselves even more “up to date” in this regard. Although it is very interesting to see children so young knowing so much about this area, excessive video games can seriously harm their development.
Covid-19 pandemic habits
Those of us who have lived through the COVID-19 pandemic know exactly how significant that period was. We spent many months with our freedom restricted due to a disease that caused many deaths in our country and around the world. However, that wasn’t the only thing that affected us.
Screen time, for both adults and young people, has become increasingly common, as it was often the only form of entertainment available. Video games are one of the most common technological habits that have increased exponentially during this period.
However, this habit was not limited to the period in which we stayed at home, between 2020 and 2021. This excess of games can compromise the development of our children.
Children’s behavior
This generation’s tendency would already be more focused on the use of electronics, but this has intensified even more with the pandemic. As a result, younger people are increasingly addicted to games, for example, and forgetting to live their lives outside of the game.
This ends up generating a lack of self-knowledge, resulting in problems dealing with one’s own emotions, as well as the feelings of other people. In general, social interaction is becoming increasingly compromised.
Child psychotherapist Rocío Ramírez says that the reason mothers bring their children to appointments has also changed. Nowadays, complaints increasingly involve the child’s desire to isolate themselves, lack of social interaction and too much time spent on electronic devices.
The consequences of this childhood
Children who live a reality completely limited to their room and playing online can, unfortunately, develop depression and anxiety because of this. After all, the lack of interaction and the absence of contact with nature directly influence the emergence of these diseases and disorders.
