It will hurt your pocket: Netflix prepares monthly fee increase for 2024

The sector of streaming goes through a series of transformations, and one of the main ones refers to the amount charged for services.

Netflix, for example, one of the largest platforms available today, is already preparing a new monthly fee increase for this year.

The value had already been adjusted in October 2023, but, apparently, the need for adjustment remains in force.

What you can already imagine is the immediate reaction of customers. The situation faced by the segment, however, leaves no other option.

In the last price adjustment, users in the United States, France and the United Kingdom saw the basic and premium plans rise from US$9.99 to US$11.99 and from US$19.99 to US$22.99, respectively. What lies ahead now?

In 2023, the platform was heavily criticized for contradicting the information that it would wait for the end of actors’ strike and other TV and radio professionals (SAG-AFTRA) to adjust prices.

Other than that, the increase came at the same time that the company adopted controversial measures to crack down on password sharing and also the ad-free basic plan for new subscribers.

At the time, the justification given was that Netflix needed to return to the standard approach to raising prices.

In fact, the sector as a whole is experiencing a change in focus. After investing in subscriber growth, the question now is just one: how to increase the profitability of the business and manage to maintain it?

The actions adopted during 2023 had the desired effect. Netflix managed to gain more TV audiences in U.S and gained over 29.5 million subscribers.

Increase in the value of Netflix in Brazil

In relation to Brazil, the new increase has already been reported by sites such as MovieWeb and Deadline. The platform has not yet commented on the case, but it is expected that something will be officially implemented by the end of this year.

While this doesn’t happen, Brazilian fans of the series and films of Netflix, who had to adapt to the changes implemented, until then, are waiting for what is to come.

One thing that must certainly occur is the consideration of cost-benefit. With the price adjustment, many will certainly evaluate the quality of the content and what is delivered by the platform. Is it worth paying more?
