Sri Lanka and Pakistan were locking horns together at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday (September 11th) between Shadab Khan and Asif Ali when a schoolboy mistake was involved in trying to catch Bhanuka Rajapaksa. While both were staring at the approaching ball, they did not see each other, resulting in a bad collision and neither could catch the ball.
The incident took place on the 19th day of Sri Lanka’s kick-off when Sri Lanka was bowled by Mohammad Hasnain and threw an off-cutter and Rajapaksa tried to smash it over the deep middle wicket. The ball looked like Ali’s collar, but Shadab collided with him, causing the ball to go to six. Shadab was injured as seen with paramedics after the accident.

Meanwhile, Rajapaksa was the chief architect of building Sri Lanka’s batting hits as half of the players headed to the locker room before they even hit the triple digits. His 45-ball 71 (six fours and three six) hits and Wanindu Damageanga’s 21-ball 36 added a fast 58 runs as Lankan’s score read 58/5.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Wanindu Damageanga were the stars behind Sri Lanka’s sixth Asian Cup title. Damageanga also shone with the ball, helping Sri Lanka turn the table completely in their favour, by floating three rooks at once.
Pakistani batters get off to a fast start, pacer Pramod Madhusan sending back three top hitters, breaking their backs. Except for Iftikar Ahmed’s 32 out of 31, none of the mid-range hits hit the double-digit mark. Damageanga dismissed Mohammad Rizwan (55 of 49 cannons) in the 17th round and sent back two other hitters in the same round.
Good bowling and hard fieldwork gave Sri Lanka their sixth Asian Cup title, capping Pakistan to 147 and winning the match by 23 runs.
