India wore a new batting pattern during the recently concluded first Test against Sri Lanka, as big guns like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were kicked out of the Test team. As for Hanuma Vihari, he came out to hit the number three and Shreyas Iyer stepped in to kick Rahane’s place. Another name that warmed the bench in the match was Shubman Gill.
Had to choose between team management shubman gill and Mayank Agarwal will join Rohit in the top spot due to KL Rahul’s absence. Agarwal was battling in South Africa’s Test series earlier this year. Meanwhile, Gill scored 52, 47 and 44 points in his last three innings, which led many to believe Gill would seize the opportunity, but team management chose to support Agarwal.
He got off to a promising start, but bowled for 33 of 49 balls. Speaking about India’s innings, Gavaskar supported their decision to play Mayank Agarwal instead of Gill. Despite stating that Gill has not played any cricket in the past two months, the former Indian captain praised Agarwal for making great runs in the home Tests.

Whenever India plays at home, Mayank Agarwal scores big goals: Sunil Gavaskar

“The problem is Gill hasn’t played cricket for two months. He hasn’t even played in the Ranji Trophy and if you’re going to represent India you have to practice a bit. Of course he has talent, but at the end of the day it’s all about form,” Gavaskar told Sports Tak.
“When you look closely, you’ll see that Mayank Agarwal always scores big goals when he plays at home in India. He hits like a boss at home but not abroad. He has at least one big face or double century in the home series. So when India plays at home, he should open up,” he said.
Meanwhile, Vihari and Iyer were also supported by batting legend to continue their innings. Number 3 is Hanuma Vihari. What did he do wrong? In South Africa he fixed the tail and hit defiantly, adding runs to India’s second inning,” said the 72-year-old player.
