“Separate Virat Kohli from all this” – Amit Mishra’s request to Shahid Afridi after saying Kohli should retire with high marks

Former India captain Virat Kohli returns to form in the Asian Cup 2022 matches. He won two half centuries and a century at the tournament.

After a one-month hiatus, he recorded his first (71st) century (he scored in a Test match against Bangladesh in 2019) three years later. It was also India’s first tone in the T20I against Afghanistan in the final game of the tournament.

But former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi believes Kohli should retire from international cricket with high marks.

“The way Virat played, the beginning of his career, there was a struggle in the beginning before he made a name for himself. He’s a champion and I believe a phase comes when you’re heading towards retirement. But in this scenario, the goal should be to get to the top.”

He later said that Kohli should not reach a stage where he would be kicked out of the team, but instead that he should have made that decision while his career was at its peak.

“You shouldn’t get to a stage where you’re kicked out of the team, instead you should get to a stage where you’re at the top. It happens rarely though. Few players, especially cricketers from the Asian Cup, make that decision, but I feel that when Virat does it, he’ll probably do it the way he started his career, and probably in the same way,” he said. ”the former all-round player added.

“Some people only retire once” – Amit Mishra

But old India bowler Amit Mishra Shahid disagrees with Afridi’s explanation. Mishra asked Afridi to steer clear of Kohli’s retirement advice because ‘some players only retire once’.

He took to Twitter and wrote: “Dear Afridi, some people only retire once, please save Virat Kohli from all this.”
