Ravichandran Ashwin equals Kapil Dev’s 434 rook record


The all-rounder took 434 Test goals, equaling Kapil Dev’s all-time record. Ravichandran Ashwin tied Kapil Dev on the third day of the first test against Sri Lanka. Spinner wants one more wicket to become India’s second most successful wicket in the longest format, behind Anil Kumble, who has 619 wickets.

During his time with the South African team, Dale Steyn had taken 439 Test goals and Ashwin could still beat his record. There are only four Indian bowlers who have received 400 or more wickets in test cricket. Ashwin surpassed Harbhajan Singh on the list in India’s home series against New Zealand last year. Ravichandran Ashwin also beat Harbajan (50) for most wickets against Sri Lanka in a Test match.

Earlier, when Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka added 53 runs, at the end of the first hits of the 2nd day it was 139/4 points, and Nissanka went over half a century. Jasprit Bumrah eventually made a breakthrough to India, beating Asalanka (29) in 58th place.

Ravindra Jadeja sacked Niroshan Dickwella (2) by just two runs to cut Sri Lanka to 164/7. He also took out Suranga Lakmal (0) for just two runs. Ultimately, Sri Lanka was defeated in 174, allowing India a 400-point lead and they had to follow suit.

At the time of writing, India tightened the grip on the second inning as Sri Lanka was reduced to 120/4 (f/o) when drinking tea. There were two wickets in Ravichandran Ashwin’s name. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja each had a door. Sri Lanka was downgraded to 45/3 before Dhananjaya de Silva and Angelo Mathews came together for 49 runs for the fourth wicket, which ended with Ravindra Jadeja’s golden bowl. Sri Lanka is still trailing behind by 280 runs and India now needs six wickets to win the first Test.

Despite Jadeja’s dominance in the Mohali Test, Ravichandran Ashwin also played an instrumental role. Ashwin scored 61 points in 82 innings and also shared a 130-game partnership with Jadeja. Indian innings were declared 8 to 574 as Ashwin took two wickets in Sri Lanka’s first innings. Lahiru Thirimanne trapped lbw for 17 and then Dhananjaya de Silva (1) came back towards the end of the day to kick his leg earlier as well.
