UAE bowlers showed courage to the end, but that wasn’t enough to defend the 113. The Netherlands put on a show at the GMHBA in Geelong on Sunday (October 16th) to win the second game of the tournament by three wickets.
Just one ball left for Scott Edwards to take the singles and end the match in their favor. The game began when BAE won the toss and chose to strike first. Mohammed Waseem was the top scorer with 47 balls and 41 points (one cap and two sixes).
He was ejected over Fred Klaassen on the last 16 ball. Klaassen threw a shorter one at an angle to the body and tugged Waseem. But hitting the top edge, the ball went towards the long horse. Tim Pringle rushed there to catch it.
Vriitya Aravind was the next top scorer with 18 points; Kashif Daud scored 15 points, while Chirag Suri added 12. Other than these doughs, the others could not do much.
The Netherlands, on the other hand, completed the goal with a combined hit. Although no one scored big, Max O-Dowd was the top scorer with 23 points, while Colin Ackermann scored 17 points with 19 balls.
Bas de Leede and Vikramjit Singh added 14 and 10 runs respectively. However, as the Netherlands continued to lose wickets, captain-witness Scott Edwards stuck to the crease until the very end. He scored 16 points on 19 balls. When a run was needed to win, he took a single run to lead his team to victory.
The UAE bowlers were commended for nearly defending a low goal of 112. Bowler Junaid Siddique swam three small forts.
