Indian legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar is truly India’s global cricket ambassador. Tanzania’s Zanzibar has eponymous stadiums in Kentucky (2017) in the United States, and one more thing was added when England’s 5-acre Leicester will take its name on Saturday. Gavaskar is the first Native American to have a place bearing his name in England or anywhere else in England.
“I am very happy and honored to have a floor in Leicester named after me. Leicester is a city with probably the strongest supporters of the game, especially Indian cricket, and so it’s really an honor,” Gavaskar, based in London, told TOI.
He’s going to Leicester to put his name down. It is owned by Bharat Sports and Cricket Club. The entire wall of the pavilion has a giant image of Gavaskar pre-painted on the wall.

Nothing delights Leicester’s Indian population more than the visit of one of the greatest of all time. “There is now a part of England that is Gavaskar forever.”
Sunil Gavaskar is the first batsman to pass 10,000 Test runs and also once held the records for most runs and most centuries in the Tests.
Rash Patel of Bharat Sports and Cricket Club said, “We have been around for 68 years. We could not think of a more effective role model for our young players than Gavaskar. It’s great that he accepts or plans. Very special for the next generation of cricketers.
