15 Australian cricketers submitted bids to choose UAE T20 League (ILT20) over BBL

After David Warner, 15 Australian cricketers have been offered to play in the new UAE T20 League – International League T20 (ILT20). ILT will start in the UAE next year and is considered the second most lucrative tournament after the Indian Premier League. Australian players will now have to choose between ILT20 and the Big Bash League.

While the maximum amount paid in BBL is 238,000 USD per person, in ILT20 players will receive 450,000 USD. In the IPL, the highest paid cricketer earns over $2 million per season.

Cricket Australia is currently under pressure and they are trying to persuade their players to choose BBL over ILT20. Local players are offered a lot of money. Apart from Warner, Chris Lynn, who was released by the previous franchise Brisbane Heat, was also offered a deal in the UAE’s league.

“We’re not in the flattery business” – Chief Executive Todd Greenberg

this Australian Cricketers Association CEO Todd Greenberg said Australian players are mature and will decide on a long-term plan.

“I was really encouraged by the maturity of the players in response because after some discussion, communication, and a little more context, they’re not just thinking short-term. They have a real sense of care about the game – otherwise they’d be mercenaries and take what’s in front of them. But they are not; they actually take a mature, thoughtful approach to it and try to be part of the solution.” Greenberg told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“Sometimes when you work closely with players, you have to tell them what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. We are not in the business of being flatterers – sometimes you need to correct them, talk to them as adults, give them the right information and let them make informed decisions with a long-term focus,” he added.
