Asian Cup 2022: Know why Jay Shah refuses to hold the national flag after India’s victory over Pakistan

Everyone was celebrating when India beat Pakistan by five wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, 28 August, and so did Jay Shah, Secretary of the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI). When the Shah politely refused to hold the Indian flag, a fellow spectator saw him offer the flag to congratulate him.

The Twitterverse was disappointed to see how an Indian could ‘disrespect’ the Indian flag and heavily criticized him for this action. But there is a reason behind Shah’s action. As he is the President of the Asian Cricket Council, he has to abide by the rules of the ACC. And according to the code of conduct, it has to show impartiality towards all stakeholders.

“I know the bowler player is under more pressure than I am” – Hardik Pandya

Speaking of yesterday’s match, four and three wicket knocks from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya helped India rally Pakistan at 147. India chased the target Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja scored 35 points, while Hardik Pandya put up 33 runs out of 17 balls, with a single six crossing the border, giving India a brilliant victory.

“You always make plans in a chase like this. After the Pandya match, I always knew that he was a junior bowler (Naseem or Shahnawaz Dahani) and also a left arm collector (Nawaz).

“We only needed 7 reductions in the last round but even if we needed 15, I would have liked it myself. I know the bowler is under more pressure than I am in the 20th round. I try to keep things simple,” said India’s #1 all-rounder.

“It’s important to assess situations and use your weapons in bowling. For me, short bowling and hard lengths have been my strengths. “It’s about asking the right questions to use them well and get the shooters to make mistakes.”
