For the first time in 2012, Google Google GlassA pair of glasses, attached to the strange look and equipped with an unpleasant camera. Unable to attract crowds and unnoticed by the public, Google Glass was a real failure for the Mountain View firm. Faced with this failure, Google decided to direct its project to the professional world. At the end of 2017, Google released Google Glass Enterprise Edition, a new edition designed specifically for companies in the technical and medical sectors.
Intel unveils Vaunt, connected glasses very different from Google Glass
Dieter Bohn from USA site Boundaryhad the opportunity to try a prototype of the glasses value Introduced by the New Devices Group (NDG)Intel. The first good point highlighted by our colleagues: style. It is impossible to suspect that you are wearing glasses connected from a few meters away: this is the perfect asset for persuading the public. Vaunt users won’t be mocked like they used to be early adopters Google Glass regularly Glass Hole to the USA.
Where Vaunts outperforms Google Glasses is their minimalism: a priori, Intel’s glasses don’t do much, but they do it well! There’s no noticeable camera here, no volume control, no microphone, and no LCD screen. Intel teams focused entirely on designing a pop-up notification system.
That’s why Vaunt is limited to showing notifications in its users’ field of view for now. Thanks to a harmless laser with low energy consumption, the glasses will transfer monochrome images directly to your retina. “It’s a class 1 laser with such low power that we don’t need to approve it.” Reassured Mark Eastwood, Director of NDG Industrial Design.
Due to its technology, the image is more primitive than those offered by Google Glass. You can still receive your SMS or reminders in the form of pictograms or texts. Notifications that will appear in your field of view are selected entirely through your smartphone, like any connected watch.
More than just a finished product, Vaunt of Intel appears to be a platform called to evolve. That’s why the company has put an SDK dedicated to developers online. Intel’s ultimate goal is indeed to expand its technology into commercially available optical frames. Like Google in its time, Intel is therefore targeting the general public. To succeed in seducing Mr. and Mrs. Everyone, the Vaunts’ presence is not lacking.“You will be able to more easily ignore your surroundings“As Intel executive Ronen Soffer points out. Is that the main selling point of connected glasses?
