As one of the world leaders in furniture and decoration, Ikea understood: our home becomes digital and interactive. That’s why the Swedish firm is multiplying initiatives to meet the needs of customers who turn on their lamps with their tablets, no longer need cables to charge their smartphones, and want them to play their favorite music from a connected speaker.
After working in augmented reality, home automation and wireless charging, Ikea is launching a new challenge: meeting gamers’ needs. That’s why the brand collaborated with Asus, one of the experts in this field. And more precisely with division ROG (Republic of Gamers) creating furniture and decorative objects for players. That’s why around thirty objects will be integrated into a new category in the Ikea catalog.
Taking gaming comfort to another level
No items were clearly displayed as everything was still to be built. The two brands held roundtable meetings with professional gamers to identify products that will improve gaming practice. Frankly we think table, chair or TV stand. We’ll see what more Ikea has to offer compared to what’s available on the market. Both brands claim that they can increase the level of comfort and immersion in gaming. Note that Ikea signed a partnership a year and a half ago to create gaming products.
The Swedish brand explains in its press release that the products will be designed at its R&D center in Shanghai. Of course they will be made in China. And marketing will begin in this country. Estimated date February 2021. Ikea confirms that other markets where the brand is present will also be affected. But not before the moon from October 2021. Or within a year. By then, Ikea may have had time to scrutinize the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 closely to create furniture large enough to store them there… Mission impossible?
